We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
...than listen to this woman screeching at me for four years. What is wrong with her? Her behavior is so inconsistent. Not that it matters. She makes it clear, for sure, that she is against Right to Work. Sheesh. Listen at your own risk.
Who advised her and coached her about talking and looking like this? It's either ludicrous or scary... which makes me think that she's decided to try to sound like Trump. In that view, this is her statement of what Trump seems to be. This is what she thinks Trump's fans are responding to in Trump. It's so wrong on so many levels. And I guess that's a clue why she's not 50 points ahead.
No secrets there. Some drink a lot, some don't. Some smoke a lot, some do not. Some eat "healthy," many do not. Good genetics. In small southern Italian towns, everybody is a cugino.
Like Britain, we assume everyone will eventually become Western and enjoy the same liberties we do if we can just get through this rough patch. The time for this level of naïveté has passed. We are no longer importing “huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” We are importing people who want to choke us to death.
I agree with Hanson that Trump was the only person with a chance against the Clinton-Dem-media machine. He begins:
Any Republican has a difficult pathway to the presidency. On the electoral map, expanding blue blobs in coastal and big-city America swamp the conservative geographical sea of red. Big-electoral-vote states such as California, Illinois, New York, and New Jersey are utterly lost before the campaign even begins. The media have devolved into a weird Ministry of Truth. News seems defined now as what information is necessary to release to arrive at correct views. In recent elections, centrists, like John McCain and Mitt Romney – once found useful by the media when running against more-conservative Republicans — were reinvented as caricatures of Potterville scoundrels right out of a Frank Capra movie.
The IYI has been wrong, historically, on Stalinism, Maoism, GMOs, Iraq, Libya, Syria, lobotomies, urban planning, low carbohydrate diets, gym machines, behaviorism, transfats, freudianism, portfolio theory, linear regression, Gaussianism, Salafism, dynamic stochastic equilibrium modeling, housing projects, selfish gene, Bernie Madoff (pre-blowup) and p-values. But he is convinced that his current position is right.
...the “values of equality, diversity, inclusion and non-discrimination” are not values anyone in the Cloud actually follows, but they like the way it sounds so they say it a lot. Show up at a faculty meeting with a Trump hat on and these people will run screaming for security. You will be arrested and thrown in a pit, all in the name of tolerance and inclusion. The words no longer have a literal meaning for the Cloud People. They are magic words and the point of using them is make you shut-up so they can boss you around without having to explain themselves.
An AVI quote: "When your current-event justice argument is basically founded on long-past injustices, it means your current argument isn't very strong. "
The media’s new war on their readers is part of the general unrest we are seeing in the West. People in the media have long viewed themselves as the fourth estate, part of the ruling class, but policing the ruling class. This was always nonsense.
“Mexicans? Splendid hard-working guys. Great family folk. Love ’em. And when we’ve got the economy booming again as a result of my policies, they’ll have their place in the sun. Until then, though, we have to give our own hard-working Americans the first crack at the new jobs. Look, the Mexicans are fine people. They’ll understand.”
The issue pits the conservationists against the sentimentalists. It comes down to this: If you want to protect the native fauna and flora of the American West, the imported ungulates need to go. (The same goes for feral pigs, aka Wild Boar).
Marc Jacobs is accused of 'cultural appropriation' after sending white models including Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid down the catwalk with fake dreadlocks
Related, for many years Obama (aka Barry Soetoro) did indeed claim to have been born in Kenya. Even his bio on this first book said so. The Rickroll - Brilliant and amusing tricksteration. The Donald is having fun. Like I say, not a fan but have to cast my meaningless vote for some fool, so why not him? National politics in America was a reality show long before TV.
If we had been civilized, then 9/11 would have been a temporary tragedy. But we had lost the ability to distinguish between ourselves and the barbarians. Out of this loss of confidence, we set out on a missionary expedition to save them by converting them to our faith in democracy. When that failed, we encouraged them to come and convert us to their faith in our inferiority and their superiority.
Travelogue: The Imperial Capital. It's a part of the world where there is never a recession, pay and benefits are generous, and where few can feel good about their job. Managers and paper-pushers by the tens of thousands, and a large load of talented schmoozers. A modern Ancient Rome.

She has never accomplished anything in life. She has held positions, but that's not the same thing as accomplishment. That is resume-building.
She got into Yale Law (gee, a real ordeal) and met Bill there. She got a job with the Watergate Commission, but got fired for being dishonest. She failed the bar exam in DC. Smartest woman in the world. She went to Arkansas with Bill, passed the Ark. bar, got jobs through Bill's political connections and made money via shady deals. When Bill was Pres, she screwed up everything she touched but managed to parlay her Bill connection to a NY Senator gig (being from Illinois and Arkansas but going where the $s are). She got to be a marquee-name Senator but did little there. She had some books ghost-written. Then she got Sec of State as a booby prize for losing to but endorsing Obama, and screwed up all of their major decisions there (Russia, Libya, Syria, Iran, Egypt). In the meantime, she devoted herself to making a magnificent fortune, because she and Bill love money and hobnobbing with the rich. On top of it all, she and Bill have a farcical marriage. They do not live together. Theirs is a political (and financial) alliance because he owes her.
To you Feminists, what would she be doing in life without Bill? Or without an adoring press (for being a Lefty female)? Surely she wonders that too. Famous for being famous.
This is not an ad for Trump, just putting things in perspective. If you are a Lefty, you will hold your nose and vote for her regardless. Obama had zero accomplishments too but he had some charm and youth.
Just for fun, to whom did Bill confess, a few years ago, that "Hillary gets more pussy than I do"? A trivia quiz. BTW, I do not care whether HRC is gay. Lots of people say Obama used to be gay in his Chicago days hence his "Bathhouse Barry" nickname. But so what? It's been a good gig for Mrs. O.
"If you find anything in this letter suggestive of unreasoned thinking or judgment, and if it offends or otherwise upsets you, you can report the author to the Bias Response authorities at the University of Vermont."
Hillary's health has little to do with the election in my view, but I am curious about what this movement is which alarmed the press. Any ideas? A tic, a movement disorder, an odd startle reflex?
Your body can only process about 10 gms of protein per hour. More than that goes to poo and pee. Multiple small meals, for you exercisers and especially lifters.
Debunking The Income Inequality Fallacy - In 'Equal is Unfair,' authors Yaron Brook and Don Watkins cut through the dishonesty of the debate over income inequality and extol the virtue of individual effort.
Guardian: Does the left have a future? All over the west, the left is in crisis. It cannot find answers to three urgent problems: the disruptive force of globalisation, the rise of populist nationalism, and the decline of traditional work.
Farming is a big industry today, thriving on government handouts. Thus the citizen pays twice for food: once in taxes and once in the store. Why is Big Ag insulated from supply and demand (I know - politics). Must be nice to be an industry for which supply and demand do not exist. Nice, but degrading.
Orban tendered a dire prediction if Europe continues to accept Muslim immigration. “There will eventually be more Muslims than Christians in Europe as the continent’s non-Muslim population is ill-equipped to fight the coming cultural competition.”
Europe’s progressives rejected Orban's warning. “In a refugee crisis of unprecedented proportions, Hungary’s prime minister, Viktor Orban, has set himself up as a bulwark against a generous-spirited, pan-European approach,” The Guardian editorialized.
Why should western Europeans listen to Viktor Orban?
