Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Read entire - especially our wonderful European readers. God is a Democrat? I am not sure this is the right way to try to appeal to voters. God is everyone's, if they will have Him. Quote:

Tuesday Morning LinksEnormous 4th Century BC Macedonian tomb discovered by farmer in Greece. It's easy to be Green - so say US corporations. Who knows whether it makes a difference, but I don't think that's what it's about. Cool book: A Treasury of Royal Scandals. More on the Left's efforts to muzzle free speech on the US airwaves. Aronoff at Accuracy in Media. Registering ammo (!?!) in Boston. Good example of how a nanny state becomes a fascist state. MassBackwards. Dhimmitude further defined and explicated. Diana West at Town Hall Katrina $ wasted: Who is surprised? New Orleans is not exactly the world capital of, um, probity. Cheney's attempted murder of lawyer "pal." So, the old guy got peppered. Big deal. It must be a slow news week, especially if you won't report progress in Iraq. I saw one news report that said he was hit with buckshot! More likely #8s or #9 birdshot from Cheney's 28 ga. Not very scary. Hey, but what about the rumors that Whittington is Libby's natural father, and also Abramoff's bag-man for the White House? Investigate that.

Monday, February 13. 2006Lincoln's Birthday Links - UpdatedAl Gore slanders the US with lies and brown-noses the Saudis - incredible. Cap'n Ed. Michelle has details also. Righteous indignation from Ace, too. Rick Moran also has a fine piece on the subject. What is Gore thinking? Most popular dog breeds - after mutts, of course. Willisms The world Lincoln was born into: Am. Thinker A Shanghai Disney? Travelwire A message to Sweden from Tammy Bruce:
Monday Morning LinksNor'easter caused by Bush's Global Warming. No doubt. Warming causes cold weather, natch. Steyn on Mustafa Shag:
It's too good: Europe is Taking The Wrong Stand. Is Old Europe Doomed? Dalrymple:
Read entire excellent piece. Venting, but with the legal details, about Carter and the MLK wiretaps. Rhymes with Right No blood, No fowl: Michelle is worried about fallout from the shooting story. Bird hunters know that this happens on occasion. As long as you miss the eye, it's no biggie, except to people like reporters who don't hunt or even like guns. A damn shame he missed the bird, though. And we learn he hunts birds with a 28 ga. That means he's good. More humorless Moslems: Volokh has the example - a new cartoon - of how not-offending becomes offensive. Jeez. Chill, Moslems. And cheer up.

Sunday, February 12. 2006Snowy Sunday Afternoon LinksBirding Superbowl. Now that is a Superbowl I can care about. CSM. Laura rips Hillary, gently. About time. "Israel will be removed." Ahmadineajahd (why can't these guys have normal names like Jim or Bill? Who can spell these names? Who wants to?) The Graf Spee's Eagle. Cool. Scroll down at RRWH Superb piece on Judith Butler, the academic propagator of Queer Theory and the patently insane wishful (?!?) notion that men and women are the same, at Horsefeathers - which lists no email link on their blog, and requires sign-up for comments - which I will not do. On principle. Pain in the ass. We'd do a reciprocal blogroll, but how do you contact bloggers with no contact link? Jack Carter? Not another Carter? In Nevada. Gateway. His Daddy is helping him - the Daddy that omitted the fact that Bobby Kennedy was the guy who wiretapped Martin Luther King Jr. at the King Funeral Bash-Fest last week. A born dhimmi - to anything and anyone. Govt. Spending, Pork, Entitlements, etc. Willisms

Saturday, February 11. 2006Saturday Afternoon LinksOnly in England! Knife Amnesty!!! Admittedly, it is scary the way a knife can slash out at someone when the holder just couldn't control the willful destructive mind of the knife. On the other hand, if you can't buy a handgun, then what are you supposed to do when someone really pisses you off in England? Hit 'em with a pudding? Then there will be Pudding Bowl Amnesty. Friday, February 10. 2006Friday Breakfast LinksPoll: 97% of Iraquis oppose terrorism. Other interesting numbers, too. Blogcritic Big snow coming to New England. Wonderful. What is fun is to watch the TV news hype a normal winter snow. "Winter weather warning" flashing below the screen, etc. I guess it sells soap, though. Weather was more fun here in New England when you didn't have two days' warning. "I insulted Americans, but they aren't going to behead me." Kalitsky in (UK) Times Reid is in deep trouble with Abramoff mess. Good thinking about Defined Pension Plans and Social Security. Willisms Hate speech is good. Coyote. Thursday, February 9. 2006Wednesday Afternoon and Evening Links - UpdatedOn the same day that the NYT refused to publish the famous cartoons due to sensitivity, they printed a photo of "Dung Mary". Well, slap me with a mackeral, as Mr. Free Market would say - how dumb can they be? Conspiracy. Yes, I am deeply offended by both Dung Mary and by their hypocrisy and hatred of America. I insist that they cease publication as of today to avoid further offense to me and my friends and family. Let's plan a mass protest march like the Moslems are doing...no, that would be cruel to kick 'em when they're down. They could be headed to jail anyway for revealing defense secrets. Will the wedge issues for 2006 be terrorist wiretapping and illegal immigration? If so, I think Repubs win. Am. Prosect. A cure for AIDS? Ace Inflatable Mustafa has a 7-inch one. Is that all? An insult to Islam! Bare-Knuckle Carnival of Christian bloggers is up at Part Time Pundit With friends like this...Brownie threatens Bush. It proves the guy wasn't really ready for prime time (Brownie, I mean...I think). Get 'em all riled up into a lather, then claim they need an emotional outlet. WTF? 100,000 Moslems to march in London. Sounds strangely like Al Sharpton tactics. Miss the Superbowl Commercials because you were busy blogging? Here they are. H/T , Charmaine No snow, warm weather for Winter Olympics. Should we blame Bush?

Thursday Early Morning LinksAbu Hamza gets 7 yrs in jail for inciting murder. That's a start. MoDo thinks Anglicans dump Israel investments. Not only is that wrong-headed, but what are they doing with investments anyway? Give what you have to the poor, and follow me, eh? World gone nuts. 6 year-old suspended for sexual harassment. Jeez. I still touch cute gals. Is that wrong? But they touch me much more than I touch them. World gone nuts, #2: Did Yahoo drop the dime on Chinese dissidents? Democracy Project. We have had NO Chinese readers for two weeks, and assume we have been shut down there. Is Maggie's Farm dangerous? How can we check it out? Anybody know? Do not read before breakfast: the Religion of Peace... Atlas. No-one wants to take us up on our Help Wanted advt? We are serious. (scroll down) Blogs and politics: What effect, if any? Ca. Wednesday, February 8. 2006Weds. Morning LinksMediterranean Diet? Healthy for some, delicious for all. Science Daily Gonzales says NYT being probed in leak case. About time. Remember what Nixon got in trouble for? Not the break-in - the cover-up. The totally disgusting Coretta King funeral. Heard a bit of it on the Hannity radio show - too awful to listen too. And the in-your-face hatred and disrespect shown to Bush demonstrated an out-of-control hatred that should be beyond civilized people. Turning a funeral into a political stunt. Beneath normal human dignity, and shows no honor to the deceased's life, or to the corpse. But I guess it's a bully pulpit...for the desperate and shameless. Bush was as gracious as a man can be. Agree with him or not, there is a real person in there with a code of behavior. Do the Dems have a future? Ex-Donk wonders, and doubts it. And Happy Blog Birthday Ex-Donk. We're the same age. And I am an ex-Donkey too. Lots of us are. Gay Tourism. It's big business. Thailand censors biography of their king. What's the fun in being a king if you can't do stuff like that? Evangelical leaders want to fight global warming. Is this their, um, area of expertise? We do understand the idea of stewardship, but... um. Science Times.

Tuesday Breakfast LinksSenate Intelligence Committee is studying the Loftus tapes, in which Saddam discusses his WMDs. NYSun. This will be a big story, and should put an end to the "Bush lied" nonsense. The hearings on the NSA and wiretapping: the lawyers at Powerline are doing a fine job with it, and making waves in the process. It seems to me that there is a valid legal issue here, but the purpose of the hearings is more to score points, because no-one will dare demand that the NSA stop what it is doing. Furthermore, having these hearings in public is nuts.

Monday, February 6. 2006Cocktail Hour LinksA quote from Jack Straw in the Scotsman (P'line found the article):
That relativistic, morally nihilistic, ridiculous, patently untrue and pathetic statement says everything that is wrong with the England of Tony Blair. Does that thinking imply that if England had had high inflation and a rotten economy in 1923, they would have created their own Hitler with their own Pub Putsch? Indeed, it reveals the limpness of Liberalism in the West - along with its elevation of emotion above reason. "Let's not make anyone angry." Grow up, weenies. The world isn't like that - being a wimp is not a defense strategy to protect your nation. The Prof wonders whether the Vatican is turning relativistic...I doubt it. For a direct, refreshingly non-relativistic and classically crude take on the Middle East, try RTLC. More cheery news on the Shiite creed of the coming apocalypse and the 12th Imam in Washington Times. And if you are new to Maggie's Farm, read our Love Letter to Europe.

Monday Morning LinksHow socialized medicine becomes politicized and paralyzed: Brit judge orders treatment, hospital refuses. BBC. At least in England you can pay your own doctor if you want to. In Canada, you're chained to the government plantation. But it's a short drive to the US for freedom and choice in medical treatment. The continued growth of mega-churches. Congregations of 16,000? CSM. It is difficult for a Yankee, where our Protestant churches often have 150-300 members, to comprehend how such huge churches can feel like congregations instead of like rock concerts. But it clearly works for folks. It's not for me, but God bless 'em. De-bugging Australia. Bed bug infestation. Gross. Hey, Aussies: wash your sheets and call 1-800-Mattress. Specter claims Admin broke law. If so, please fix the law. Iran, Arabs love Bill Clinton. Why? Newsmax Marsh Arabs restoring their marshes, with a little help. Amazing. Big Lizard. Saddam destroyed the Birthplace of Civilization, just to eliminate political enemies. What a destructive, dangerous, low-life scumbag. Not to mention that those marshes are an important migratory bird location. Is there something emotionally missing in Hillary? Orlando Sentinel. Yes, there is something about her that feels creepy and insincere. And I am talking psychology, not politics. A Nixonian streak. Why isn't the Admin showcasing the US economic boom? Good question. Kudlow PC interfering with clear thinking and honest speech in Europe. Blair has been the worst offender, according to MacQueen at TCS. This kind of BS offends me: do I have to burn a building for someone to care about my feelings? Americans are comfortable with nuclear power. CSM. Let's get lots of it. Cheap, clean, and endless.

Nasty bug going around: A deadly intestinal bacterium A different category of "insensitive" cartoons: cartoons from the Arab world. Dinocrat. And Bird of Paradise has the wisest take on this whole cartoon subject, from a Christian standpoint. (Can't believe we are talking about cartoons.) Feisty goldfish Phin makes fun of Pajamas Media. Wolcott goes after PJ too. Building a wall of fear: Julian Bond says "blacks have no freedom" in America, and Repubs are Nazis. How does this kind of rhetoric help anything? Well, it seems clear that its purpose is to scare your constituency into staying on your political plantation. But this kind of talk goes way beyond routine lying demagoguery and pandering and victimhood-mongering: it is plain despicable and destructive and dishonorable. Confed. Yank has story. Thursday, February 2. 2006Thursday Mid-Day LinksYes, we are finally updating our blogroll. Will provide a list of all of those sites we use, but have neglected to list, soon. Wednesday, February 1. 2006A Few Weds. Afternoon LinksBush on Iran: Jihad Watch Sheehan at the SOTU. Johnson at Frontpage looks into the ridiculous details. She is great for comedy, at her expense. Call it tragicomedy. Lots of bloggers on the story of France-Soir publishing the Moslem cartoons. Dr. Sanity has a nice post on the subject, also commenting on Slick Willy's loathsome comments. And the latest on this silly story at CSM. Sen Reed (who he? D, RI) thought Alito wanted too much religious freedom, so voted against. You can't make this stuff up. Anchor Rising. Hey, RI - you are marching to your own kazoo. Is there a "right" to a child? Touchstone says no. Of course not - what a dumb idea. The Amazin' Dancin' Alito. Pretty cute. Court Jester Math teachers are hard to find. Yeah, math is sooooo hard. Especially if you can't think straight or clearly. Education Wonks The whining of the MSM.
