Ain't that the truth?
The Eastern and Central US has the Rough Green Snake (New Jersey and south) and the Smooth Green Snake, in the Northeast. These skinny bug-eaters are often referred to as "Grass Snakes," although both like to climb in vegetation.
They are so well-camouflaged that they are rarely seen, and they tend to freeze when disturbed. I think I once saw a Rough in a bush in southern CT, but I can't swear it was a Rough because it moved too quickly for me to grab it to check it's ID.
I love seeing snakes in New England. We don't have enough of them except for the regular Garter Snakes that always startle you when they are curled up in a Zucchini plant and the gigantic Black Snakes on stone walls and in the sand on Cape Cod. Did I ever mention the time my Mom killed a Milk Snake with a hoe (mistaking it for a Copperhead) while we batch of kids were playing in the grass? A mythical moment.

I have been switching my phrasing from "strength" to "sturdiness" lately because I think it's a better way of thinking about muscle fitness under the broader umbrella of General Fitness - what we call Fitness For Life.
For example, I'd like to deadlift 300 lbs, but it's not overly important to me. Doing 5 reps of 175-200 will be enough to indicate that I am not frail, not fragile.
The problem I'm sure our fitness readers have with strength training (resistance training, or sturdiness training) is time. If we aim for 6-7 hours weekly for fitness, with 2 of those HIIT and endurance cardio and 2 of them calisthenics, how can we fit in all of the strength building or strength maintenance?
Maybe by condensing resistance things and mixing them up. For example, there are several basic back exercises. Three of them are fundamental (ie, must be done at least once weekly): deadlifts (a total body exertion - The King of Exercises), rows, and pullups/chinups or pull-downs.
Each of those can take 15-20 minutes of your time with 6 sets, with 90-120 sec. rest between sets. So you can schedule, say, deads once weekly, pullups/chinups/pull-downs once weekly, and some type of row once or twice weekly (eg inverted row, seated row, dumbell bent-over row). Mix them up week to week). And because those make good arm demands too, there is less need for pure arm exercises.
Other than the deads, the key to back exertions is to clench your scapulae. Squeeze them. Make the back do them bulk of the work, not your arms. With chinups and pullups, you thrust your elbows down to power the movement.

 Body-building is a somewhat common hobby for men and women. You can term it foolish, but most hobbies are sort of pointless but personally rewarding anyway.
The Guardian is upset (It is always upset about something. That is their brand.) about males who want to look buff: The idealised male body has become bigger, bulkier and harder to achieve. So what drives a generation of young men to the all-consuming, often dangerous pursuit of perfection?
I will join the Guardian in criticising steroid use by both men and women. It just sacrifices health for muscle bulk. The gyms I use have no real body-builders. Strength-builders, sure. General ftness-seekers, lots - but General Fitness includes strength.
On our website, we prefer to focus on "Fitness for Life", while bearing in mind that few women do not want to look "beach-ready" and few guys want to be, or to appear, physically weak or flabby. Some degree of narcissism is just a part of self-respect.

This post represents a major effort by a friend who wanted to share his career's worth of accumulated knowledge and wisdom from the opportunity-seeking end and from the hiring end. He warns that it is not a final draft. He doesn't know when he will get around to polishing it up (because he does have a day job).

Over a long career, I have been a job-seeker and I have been a C-suite boss. The last time I went looking for a job it was more of an undertaking than I’d anticipated.
Up until then, I’d pretty much walked easily from opportunity to opportunity. After all, in the beginning there were not many skilled professionals in computing and the IT world, and demand far exceeded supply. At the last time I found myself looking for work, I’d nominally retired but had been requested to stay. During the financial meltdown however, all extensions were cancelled and I was summarily out of work with virtually no notice. I was already over 60 and the economy was unfavorable. I landed what I think is a wonderful, challenging, and interesting job but the process took over a year.
The reason I mention this is because at the conclusion of my search, an experienced recruiter said -more or less in passing - that “You ran a great search.” I’d never thought of myself as even doing “a search.” I thought I was looking for a job. These are much the same thing, but I learned that a search is a disciplined way of looking for a job and doing it right makes a big difference in the outcome.
These are my notes on how to do a great job search. For the more experienced reader to get something from this, I’ve had to write to the executive level. If you’re less senior (more junior?) or just starting out, some of this will be overkill, but it is maybe helpful to know this material in advance of needing it. The principles are the same. And while my vantage point is business/corporate, these basic principles should apply to any sort of work or career pursuit.
Other than obvious stuff on dress, I don’t think there is any overtly male/female, but I admit I may used ”he” more than “she” just from habit.
