Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Point of privilege! Point of privilege! The woman body shape article is cisgender, male patriarchy, body shaming, capitalism writ large, female phobia, environmental rape! Shame! Shame!
It seems to me that the only people who still care about what the New York Times has to say are the people who read the New York Times, which is a small and shrinking number.
The whole idea of them as being "the newspaper of record" and the gold standard of American journalism is certainly no longer true on a national level, if indeed it ever was. I have a suggestion for all of the politicians who want to pass laws that will put legal and honest gun owners in jail. Lets pass a law that mandates one year in jail for any lawmaker who votes for a law that infringes on our civil rights. Also mandates 6 months in jail for even advocating that they want to pass a law infringing on our civil rights. Make no mistake these gun laws being discussed will not prevent mass shooting and they are not intended to prevent mass shootings they are intended to eventually get to a point where we have total gun confiscation. Ironically, history shows that even then murders and other crimes will increase. The politicians know this and still they want to take guns from law abiding citizens.
A health care system that is the envy of the world:
A family member in Canada went to his doctor with chest pains. After numerous tests the doctor told him that without a quadruple bypass he would die within 2 years, BUT since he was 82 the Canadian health care system felt that it was a waste of money to do a bypass on an 82 YO man so they would not do it. No waiting period issue simply that they would not do it because of budget reasons. This man knew he could drive South a couple hundred miles and go to an American doctor and have the bypass done in a week. He could have done it but he was a proud Canadian who always bragged to his American relatives that Canada's health care system was the best in the world and he couldn't bring himself to do it. He choose to keep a stiff upper lip and ride out the inevitable. Even his wife begged him to get the operation in the states but he wouldn't. It would be like admitting that he had been wrong all those years about Canadian health care and that what he paid for all those years was a fraud. He passed away peacefully less than two years later from a massive heart attack in his sleep. His wife was inconsolable. He was a kind and generous man that will be missed by his children, grand children and great grand children. I am sorry to hear of your loss. I hope that his family can find peace with his passing.
None of us are perfect. Sounds like many a European system.
Green/communist party in the Netherlands proposed a few months ago to stop supplying any but the most basic (meaning painkillers and antibiotics essentially) healthcare to people of 75 years old and older because "it's not economical to keep them alive". Let that sink in... Welcome to government controlled healthcare systems. My grandparents who lived until 98 and 99 wouldn't have appreciated being put out to pasture after living three-quarters of their lives. Heck, he was still carrying his golf clubs for 18 holes under the Oklahoma sun until he was 90.
“A woman’s body shape, and not just her weight, may have an impact on her health."
I recall discussion of the different outcomes for pear (weight carried on hips and thighs) vs apple (weight carried around the waist) body shapes from a decade or more ago. Imagine for a second that Hollywood was a conservative bastion (I know that is impossible, but work with me), and it gave us a movie where elite conservatives hunted liberals to thin out the herd of Hillary voters. The hue and cry would be deafening. It would be more evidence of Trump voters = Hitler. But this is a fantasy of lots of the coastal elites. And since we are deplorable, don'tyaknow, this is ok?
I haven't heard a thing about this on Yahoo News or any of the mainstream news places. If it were the other way around, I am sure it would be the top news story for a week. So right, but what can be done about the legacy broadcast media having become the propaganda arm of the increasingly radical and militant dhimmucrat party?
I haven't seen the movie or the trailer, but there are some accounts that the movie's plot is actually that the Deplorables turn the tables on their adversaries and in the end, enjoy an atavistic hillbilly triumph. Does that change your point? I think either way, any movie with such a premise of salacious blood-simple appeal is, in the end, unimaginative and boring. I didn't waste my money on Get Out either, on the same belief. I thought Deliverance was a pretty good movie, though.
That was what Christian Toto said about the movie's plot but then I read elsewhere that the movie's producer or director claims that it's 'satire'. Satire of what was not explained but maybe they envision they're doing a flip-the-script version of Deliverance, or ridiculing Red State gun culture? It sounds incredibly tone-deaf even beyond the timing of the publicity campaign.
Well.....I don't think I would call it tone-deaf. I think the Progressive Left likes to be edgy with their unpleasantness, and they have been progressively walking it toward the break point for over 3 years now, since the election. It's a game of one-upsmanship within the tribe. Look at the confrontational tactics used on conservative diners like Ted Cruz or Ms. Huckabee or others, driving them away from their dining and then hectoring them in the street. Or on others for simply wearing a MAGA hat in a Whataburger. Or showing up en-masse to a political figure's home to be obnoxious. Or publishing lists of political donors. It's a bit of a miracle that there hasn't been serious personal violence and retaliation to date, which is what this tactic attempts to provoke, of course. It will happen, eventually. So of course it follows that someone who commands access to the silver screen's mass audience would want to explore the possibilities.
This same basic plot about hunting humans for sport has probably been used in at least a dozen movies. From an early twentieth century short story called "The Most Dangerous Game."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Most_Dangerous_Game I remember reading this as a kid, along with "Leiningen versus the Ants," another famous short story of the same kind of genre (and which shows up again as part of the plot of the last Indiana Jones movie). Gave up reading Forbes after 35 years upon learning the family sold out to the Chinese. Now I get emails begging to come back for $9.00. If any can recommend a good business news source please let me know. Thanks MF for everything here. Wish you had a tip jar.
I despise, detest, and distrust the NYT. I m SO not bummed their anti-Trumpism is failing.
Majority of Blacks and Hispanics Support Presidential Candidates Who Are Against Illegal Immigration: Poll Again, I am SO not bummed. Bal'mer clean-up: Yay for people; Boo for Bal'mer. Sweden: Surrendering to the Muslims. “After review, this post has been removed for failing to meet our editorial standards.”
totally agree.
I got to read the article beforehand, and unless they were pranked by an Israeli somewhere (always possible) there was nothing out of sorts in the article - certainly I'd seen the information presented many times before. It may well be a narrative issue... Wow. I read the Forbes article first thing this morning; in my zombie mod, while eating breakfast. Starring into the white light of the iPad. The information was nothing new. There was a few facts about the UN removing distant past warming periods, from their subsequent warming gloom and doom reports. Was that the trigger? Maybe it was telling the truth about the insignificant effects of CO2? Maybe is was the authors snide remarks about sophomore physics students? Sometimes I long for the days of Zachrial, to explain it all to us.
The Hunt. I take it that it is a remake of The Island of Dr. Moreau.
If this film were a depiction of reality and not an impotent Soy Boy's vegan wet dream of having a wet dream, then the Soylent Collective would not be the hunters. And they wouldn't be the hunted, either. Too weak and stupid to handle weapons and not creative enough to save themselves. Like shooting fish in a barrel. Although listening to them "Rheeeeeeee!" for hours on end would induce perpetual nightmares in sane people. I think the article about a woman's body shape is really more about a witch doctor like mentality who really believe that they can toss a few bones on the ground and read the future. This is a never ending story, it is like a soap opera that has been on TV for 20 years. Next year it will be something else, still heavy (pun not intended) on the obesity thingy, still dancing around what you eat with each commenter absolutely sure they know what you should and shouldn't eat. We seem to be looking for the holy grail; if only there was something we could easily see that predicted health problems and shorter life AND knew what it took to reverse it. If only...

A Woman Has A Right To Choose’ Method Of Self-Defense?
That was good. Cuomo had to stop himself from speaking out against abortion but you could see he wanted to go there to make his case against guns. Instead he ended up with word salad. Kudos to Theresa Inacker. |
