Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

re The Guardian view on the China-US trade wars: the global economy is at risk
Here's the other side of it. China loses. Trump Doubles Down On The China Trade War QUOTE: The United States, at worst, has not been affected by the trade war. Vietnam, India, and Mexico are clearly winning the war. Meanwhile the European Union will benefit from any improvements in Chinese economic practices that result from the trade war. Ditto post–Brexit Britain. The only one losing is China. https://nationalinterest.org/feature/trump-doubles-down-china-trade-war-71561 I'm a Canadian (so they won't be able to presume I'm just some gun-totin', isolationist Yank deplorable) when I freely offer this advice to the commentariat at The Guardian over there in Kings Place:
The duty of any national leader is to put the sovereignty and interests of their own country first. Yup...I'm not worried about the global economy as I am more concerned with the national economy. Nationalism is good...except to the globalist elites.
We have been in a trade war with China for 60 years or so. China has been actively prosecuting the war and has gained economically and militarily (by stealing our tech secrets). We just began fighting back just over a year ago. China is generally smarter than all of our politicians put together but Trump has Trumped them. China has decided to play the odds and wait out the president hoping for one of our stupid politicians to get the office. China will probably win this war.
The worst possible result from a trade war with China (according to the talking heads and billionaires) is that we no longer trade with them at all. IMHO that would be the best thing that could happen to us. Make all those products here not in China. "China is generally smarter than all of our politicians put together" is an astonishingly low bar. Most of our politicians are very stupid; so stupid, in fact, that they believe themselves to be geniuses.
Trump condemns white supremacy. This is what they were wanting, right? For the President to speak out?
And it's not enough. It's never enough. They have their feelings, and Trump's not doing enough for those because they're still unhappy Hillary didn't win. There's NO way for them to believe deep down that Trump isn't racist. I think ol' Bird Dog just nailed it:
"Facts don't matter. Orange man bad." That's a keeper. So Trump calls for gun confiscation and the death penalty for "hate crimes".
Caving to the far left AGAIN. Re: Obama: 24 Mass Shootings. Trump: 4 Mass Shootings
QUOTE: There have been eight mass shootings under Clinton, eight under Bush, and 24 under Obama.Ten Mass Shootings out of 24 since 1966 have happened under the Obama Administration. Am I the only one who can't make sense of this? Were there ten or were there twenty four mass shootings under Obama. re Chicago Mass Shooting This Morning. Where Is The Democrat Outcry?
As most dem pols are sociopaths, the victims of mass shootings don't concern them. It is the event they are interested in and whether or not it can advance their agenda. With near unanimous black support there is nothing to be gained by even acknowledging Chicago's black on black violence committed in black neighborhoods. Black political support doesn't need to be earned. OTOH there is much to be gained by demagoging mass shooting events outside black neighborhoods, there may be a gain in political support from non blacks and it advances their totalitarian ambitions. I'm starting to think you're right on the sociopathic tendencies of the Dems. There's literally nothing they won't accuse others of doing if it'll advance their political agenda, despite no evidence of the others doing it.
Frankly, they've got more projection going than a busy 24-screen Cineplex on a Saturday night... Re the MSNBC contributor who's obsessing about keeping the flags at half-staff until 8/8 being a sign Trump's a 'white supremacist'...
8/8 - H/H - Heil Hitler. 8/9 - H/i - First two initials of Hitler 8/10 - H/J - Hitler Jugend/Youth 8/11 - H/K - Hitler/Koch - OMG, it's a conspiracy! 8/12 - H/L - Obviously an abbreviation of Heil. 8/13 - H/M - Heil Martin (Bormann) a Nazi party official. 8/14 - H/O - Heil Octoberfest! 8/14 - H/P - Heil Pinschers! (Nice looking dogs...) Can I has Journalism Degree now? (SMH) Do they have any idea of how much damage they're doing to their own credibility with garbage like this? Or do they even care in their frenzy to 'Get Trump However We Can'? The irony is the reporter is going down the same path of logical madness that the shooter went.
Who knew that Toni Gonzalez, #88, Hall of Fame tight end, is an admirer of Hitler.
Samuel Pepys is a major character in Christopher Buckley's comic historical fiction novel, "The Judge Hunter." Pepys arranges for his inept brother-in-law to be sent to America to hunt down two of the regicides of Charles I. Lots of adventures in the British colonies and in New Amesterdam and lots of use of the contents of Pepys's diary. A particularly funny subplot involves Peter Stuyvesant's pet parrot!
One reviewer on Amazon says he usually reads nonfiction, but this was one fiction book he really enjoyed. Sums it up for me, too. Samuel Pepys also makes an appearance in Robert Neill's trilogy spanning the last days of Parliamentary "rule" before the Restoration to the exile of James II. the three books - "Crown and Mitre", "The Golden Days", and Lillibullero" are truly classics.
"When 'hate speech' laws begin, there is no end to them."

The report doesn't answer two ESSENTIAL points. How many such shooters come from broken, fatherless families? And how many of them are on anti-depressant, or anti-anxiety, or anti-psychotic medications? |
