Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

From today's LectionaryMark 10:35-45 10:35 James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came forward to him and said to him, "Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you." 10:36 And he said to them, "What is it you want me to do for you?" 10:37 And they said to him, "Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory." 10:38 But Jesus said to them, "You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?" 10:39 They replied, "We are able." Then Jesus said to them, "The cup that I drink you will drink; and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized; 10:40 but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared." 10:41 When the ten heard this, they began to be angry with James and John. 10:42 So Jesus called them and said to them, "You know that among the Gentiles those whom they recognize as their rulers lord it over them, and their great ones are tyrants over them. 10:43 But it is not so among you; but whoever wishes to become great among you must be your servant, 10:44 and whoever wishes to be first among you must be slave of all. 10:45 For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many." After all, we humans tend to think so linearly at times, we tend to miss the bigger picture. I'd never actually fallen for the 'Christmas is at risk' story, though for reasons entirely different than what I'm about to share. Her note is as follows: "The latest fear tactic is saying that "Christmas may be at risk" due to supply chain issues. Christmas is not at risk. The ability to buy a bunch of crap no one needs or knew they wanted may be at risk, but Christmas is not at risk. Let's not allow these fear-mongers to screw with our joy, please. The joy of Christmas isn't stuff, it's family and tradition and celebrating love. And, if you're religious, it is about Jesus' birth. Not STUFF. Christmas is not at risk. Christmas will go on. Maybe in a different way for now, but... The real story of Christmas won't be the TV we couldn't get on time, or the doll your daughter didn't get. It's going to be the time we spend together with friends and family and enjoy each others company. That isn't at risk, though Fauci is trying very hard to push it, and we should continue to look forward positively and set aside most of the fear-mongering that the Democrats and Democrat-oriented media push our way. Her note has altered how I was thinking about the upcoming holidays in a very positive way, and I am 100% in agreement with this point of view. More Stanford WhiteDespite being a terrible person in some ways, White was not like Frank Gehry who always wants to make a Gehry statement. What is CRT?What is CRT? CRT, Critical Race Theory, as it is translated outside academic circles-- often with masking euphemisms -- is identified by: One-sided descriptions of history and of race that is negative or derogatory toward certain countries, races, or religions, without fair and balanced contrary facts; One-sided elevation or superiority of one race, nationality, or religion above others; Identification of individuals by their skin color as belonging to a favored (oppressed, some nonwhites)) or unfavored (oppressor, white) group; Treating certain nonwhite groups as white (ex: Asians), and ignoring other nonwhite groups; Ignoring that there is much and increasing interracial and interreligion individuals, and that the unfavored groups contain many nonwhites; Frequent antisemitism and attacks on Israel's legitimacy; Treating as traitors or ignoramuses any in the supposed "oppressed" grouping who disagree with CRT.
In short, CRT and its euphemisms is a racist and hateful, divisive, and false hate ideology.
