We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
the whole video is about how he went from being a college professor to being a nobody, because he was giving it all up to play in his own band. If being a college professor is such a great gig, he wouldn't have given it up, so stop harping on it already.
He knew being a prof wasn't a great gig, but it was stable and respectable, and it definitely beat bussing tables and having his car repossessed. He had to find a way to do work that meant something to him, even though it meant living hand-to-mouth and feeling his way through.
The story could just as easily have ended with him getting high every night living indefinitely in his parents' house, quarreling with everyone instead of finding communities everywhere that would take him in, where he could contribute something of value.
It turned out that his gift for teaching was the core, after all. He's a skillful musician, but becoming a performing sensation with his own material wasn't in the cards.
