If you are a black conservative, would you consider voting for Obama anyway? Or if you are a white guy or gal, try imagining being an American black guy or gal and ask yourself whether you would vote for Obama, even if you disagreed with many of his basic assumptions, and even if you had some doubts about his preparation for the job. As we said yesterday, making fun of McCain's POW injuries is a lousy stragegy. Show me your wounds first. How fast things change. Dems are now scared. It could all change again, though.

Dem politico Mark Penn says: I think here the media is on very dangerous ground. I think that when you see them going through every single expense report that Governor Palin ever filed, if they don't do that for all four of the candidates, they're on very dangerous ground. I think the media so far has been the biggest loser in this race. And they continue to have growing credibility problems.

Naturally, the Obamas send their kids to elite private schools. Would not want them associating with the riff-raff or being taught by unionized teachers. That's what wealthy Liberals do. Lefties seem to consist mainly of the condescending and/or guilty elites and the "gimme more" poor - and the young kids who know nothing about real life. Public schools are for us proles, I guess. Us middle-class proles who work hard and pay our taxes and worry about our savings. Palin's kids go to public school.
 They probably faked that proton thingy. Who could tell if they're fooling us, cuz them proton thingys are so teensy-weensy that you can hardly see the dang thing to break it with a 21 oz. hammer.

What is "the war on terror"? We have saved Iraq, and are chipping away at the sick craziness in Afghanistan - but what is it? In my opinion, it's only a "war" in the sense that there is a "war against cancer." It's a cultural cancer: If it stays where it is, who cares? But if it invades us, we do care. Paglia: The witch-trial hysteria of the past two incendiary weeks unfortunately reveals a disturbing trend in the Democratic Party, which has worsened over the past decade. Democrats are quick to attack the religiosity of Republicans, but Democratic ideology itself seems to have become a secular substitute religion. Since when did Democrats become so judgmental and intolerant? Mrs. Palin is mobilizing women of all sorts. Good on her. We are all sick of the unattractive feminazi academic lesbians. Takes 3-4 hrs of activity/day to fight your fat genes. Chop some wood. Clean the house. Peel some potatoes. Carry that load. Mow the lawn. Turn off the TV. Turn off the internet (except for Maggie's Farm). Weed the garden. Carry some rocks. Go to Costco. Tip some cows. Shoot a caribou. Carbon is a lost cause. Sure is. The coming global cooling crisis. Lehman is screwed. I feel badly for the long-time Lehman guys who thought they were wealthy. A great American company which, I assume, did not listen to their risk managers. Obama dies on O'Reilly. He really cannot give a straight answer, only lawyerly evasions. But his people can do the dozens (that's a ghetto expression). Steyn on the world wanting Obama. Funny. Certainly PM Brown's endorsement will not carry much water in the US. We do not want to be like today's UK. Europe is in a death-spiral. What about all those "green jobs"? Remember when feminism was concerned with overcoming artificial and essentially irrational “glass ceilings” in employment and other activities? Well, with time and legislation, those areas are pretty well fixed – as the positions of Sarah Palin, Hillary Clinton, Carly Fiorina, Sally Krawcheck, etc., etc. have demonstrated. What now for the Departments of Feminist Studies at universities all over our country? Unemployment? Hardly. The feminist movement has morphed into the Feminist Party, and it has An Agenda. Gwynnie spoke to a Feminist Chair at a big university this weekend and got an education. Suggesting that Sarah’s nomination might have appeal to what we thought were feminists (shattering another ceiling, inspirational to young girls, etc.), we were bowled over by the furious attack – turns out that Sarah is hated by the “Feminist” Party. We asked the professor what the “Feminists” regard as their major issues, and it turns out that they are: - Gun control
- Abortion on demand, federally subsidized if necessary
- Anti “creationism”
- And the balance of the standard Liberal agenda.
We had guessed that abortion would be a criteria for admission to the “Feminist” elite, but gun control? Creationism? It’s sort of sad that as real feminism has almost blown away the glass ceilings, “Feminists” would dilute themselves into becoming merely liberals with skirts (or pantsuits). The Feds should have privatized Fanny and Freddie, not taken them over. Running the mortgage market is not part of the government's job according to the Constitution. One day later, now the auto biz asks for Fed support. It's a slippery slope if failing businesses can run to the Feds (eg our wallets). I tire of these elites who always are certain that they know what's best for me. That's why Palin represents the most serious conservative threat ever to the modern liberal claim on issues of cultural and social superiority. Why? Because men and women who never before would have considered voting for a Republican have either decided, or are seriously considering, doing so. They are deciding women's rights must be more than a slogan and actually belong to every woman, not just the sort approved of by left-wing special interest groups. Palin's candidacy brings both figurative and literal feminist change. The simple act of thinking outside the liberal box, which has insisted for generations that only liberals and Democrats can be trusted on issues of import to women, is the political equivalent of a nuclear explosion.

He reports that the big picture remains poor, but reports some big tactical successes, including a successful turbine delivery of to the Kajaki Dam hydroelectric facility. He's posted a big report on the operation, which was the biggest of the war. He's with British troops now, and his comment is: "These guys are studs. All they do is work out and fight." He says troop morale generally in Afghanistan is really good, partly because there's more public support for that war, but that the overall situation is "not great" and "clearly deteriorating." He adds that "we're not losing," but that we're not making progress either. "I'll tell you Glenn, we really need more troops here." With what he describes as a "meltdown" going on in Pakistan, he says that Afghanistan needs a lot more troops -- like 50,000 or more. Part of the problem, he adds, is that many of the Coalition troops, like the Germans, aren't really allowed to fight, making the effective number of available troops lower than it seems. Meanwhile, remember that Michael is supported by reader donations. With people focused on the election it's worth remembering that he's still out there covering this stuff. I've donated.
