We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
In a recent Manhattan Contrarian article, my dad pointed out that, by their own admission, the worst racists in our country are academics in our elite colleges and universities. Even as they make more and more efforts to improve their âdiversity and inclusionâ with committees, trainings, seminars, course curriculums, and town halls â just to name a few â by their own assessment, this has only resulted in more âsystemic racism,â âoppression,â and âwhite supremacy.â Since thatâs the case, it is time to question whether the model of elite-institutions-practicing-diversity-and-inclusion can ever bring society even one step closer to racial harmony â its stated intention â or if itâs only an exercise in punishment and disunion.
We arenât supposed to care anymore about how the FBI ginned up the conspiracy theory about Donald Trump and âRussian collusion.â The damage is done, and there are thousands of people who unthinkingly take as a given that Trump was a Putin puppet. Theyâre impossible to talk to. Iâm reminded of the old saying about never trying to teach a pig to sing. (It wastes your time and annoys the pig).
It sounds to me like the "soft bigotry of low expectations."
As an average caucasian person, I never understood math until I was 18. Then it all clicked in and became obvious to me. Lots of white kids do not get beyond arithmetic, perhaps because they avoid it. I never got beyond Calc ll, but in life I never needed it. Many careers do need it, though, and many very bright people just love it.
Former President Donald Trump repeatedly tore into President Joe Biden during his CPAC speech on Sunday over a variety of issues ranging from the crisis on the southern border to the millions of American children who are not in school learning.âJoe Biden has had the most disastrous first month of any president in modern history, thatâs true,â Trump said. âAlready the Biden administration has proven that they are anti-jobs, anti-family, anti-borders, anti-energy, anti-women, and anti-science. In just one short month, we have gone from America first to America last.âTrump slammed the Biden administration for their âcallous indifference toward working familiesâ by not prioritizing getting Americaâs children back
The California High Speed Rail, its formal name, was a hobby-ego project for former governor Jerry Brown that was supposed to move passengers between Los Angeles and San Francisco at 220 mph by 2020. Instead, the project is moving at the speed of the museum piece it sometimes appears destined to be. Not a single train has run, with train testing still six to seven years away, amid seemingly never-ending delays.
...The news regarding the project is, as usual, dismal...
