Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Waiting to die. Pathetic. A sea turtle hero. (h/t, Jungle Trader) Useful advice? Don't take a high-paying job. Like clockwork. Every election season, 60 Minutes presents a fraudulent news story. Who didn't wonder about this? They shoot rockets at your civilians, then act outraged and victimized when you react. I had a baby sister who knew that trick. The teaching colleagues who annoy the hell out of you. Chavez wants a war, to distract his people from the misery he has given them. Sunday, February 24. 2008Sunday Evening LinksI am back home from the snowy hills of Vermont. Global cooling, I can report, is in full swing up there. From Tim Blair:
Even Frank Rich notes Hillary Clinton's quagmire. Surrender now! I thought Liberals enjoyed surrender...What's all this fighting about? How did we get to Obama as a Dem nominee? VDH. My simple-minded theory is that nobody likes Hillary Clinton. She is no Maggie Thatcher. Even the likeable Commie Moonbat Pete Seeger is prouder of America than Mrs. Obama Run, Ralph, run. He will. For those of you who do not live in Massachusetts, let me inform you that Nader fits right in. Campus rape. It's everywhere, in theory. But rare as hen's teeth, in reality. What gives? Oh, now I get it. It's about feminist victim politics. Facts urgently needed to support theory. (Of course, one can always change definitions, too, when theory-support is required. I suspect that some of the lesbian feministas wish to view all heterosexual romance and fun as rape.) Is there any relationship between global climate and hurricanes? No, but it surely causes earthquakes. Everybody knows that. Oysters that I would never eat. Yeccch.

Health Beat. How come nobody told us that cholesterol didn't matter? (h/t, Kevin MD) Pours her heart out: Dr. Sanity on Ivy League Populism and the Path to Power. Preach it, Dr. S! What it is! Reminder to LA Times: Illegal immigration is against the law. I think that is why it is called illegal, as in "a government of laws, not men." Versatile. The always-chic Kim du Toit covers the fashion scene with flair. Raise somebody else's taxes to help Chad. I want my iPod. "And you want to run my country?" Althouse. No evidence of executive competence thus far. "Reveling in their biases" in schools of social work. (h/t, Minding the Campus) Still hiding their incomes. Who? The Clintons, of course. PressThink takes a thoughtful look at the NYT and the McCain content-less story. Makes ya wonder. Yes, The NYT is looking bad, again. I'd be embarassed to bring that "story" to my City Editor. My instinct tells me that the story was "ordered" from the top, and did not come from the guys on the ground. However, here's a real story that the NYT has not followed. Similarly, a high school study is censored. Nowadays, if you censor information, it's all over the internet in 24 hrs. Is America ready for this dangerous left-winger? No, I don't mean McCain. Times Online. Also, the Messiah of the narcissistic Generation More truth about Obama: His stance on gun rights. These lefties have absolutely no concept of the limits of government power which means, to me, no respect for the population. And what about this? Bernadette Dohrn? America sucks and so does the military. That's really the story. It won't play in Peoria. Did we mention this? The AP instructs on how to play the Fidel retirement story. OK, we all know that it's a happy country full of happy slaves, enjoying their "health care" while singing and dancing all day long, and never worrying their heads about politics at all. It probably is a paradise for the rulers, as long as they are sociopaths. Back to Kindergarten. RW Prof advises Repubs to recognize that they are a coalition. Indeed. Otherwise we'd all be parties of one. Feeling bad can be good for you. The miracle of melancholia. I guess I believe that the right amount of pain and heartache is good for us, but when do we get to say that we have had enough? What happens when a Lefty wonders about global warming. Sheesh. Interestingly, her college thesis is locked up until after the election. (h/t, Jules) Also via Jules, a hilarious Obama piece by Herald columnist Margery Egan - a quote re Michelle's accidental revelation of her contempt for the USA:
Speaking of Obama lecturing, Mrs. O said this: Barack Obama will require you to work. He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism. That you put down your divisions. That you come out of your isolation, that you move out of your comfort zones. That you push yourselves to be better. And that you engage. Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed. Nobody would dare talk that way to my face, except perhaps my mother.

Speaking of cooling, the Arctic ice is back. Obama is a Leftist. Duh. More at American Power. Never, never tell me that there is anything Christian about giving other peoples' money away. Nevertheless, Mrs. Obama tries to tell me that my soul is broken. Do not take my inventory, Mrs. O... My soul is my problem, not yours. Ardolino takes a look at the Iraq legislature. The black voting bloc, and how the Clintons might have blown it. I detest the very notion of voting blocs, but I guess they are the reality. The Islamic revival in Egypt. Sad. A little bit of Jesus would do them good. Bush is popular in Africa. Rightly so. But what Africa needs, if they want economic growth, is free markets. Educational innovation! New! Improved! From Insty:
More re Dr. Rossiter's book on Liberalism (sounds like our Dr. Bliss):
Government fails at providing power in SA. Of course. A government couldn't run a candy shop without a subsidy. Soros tentacles. The guy is a creeped-out crackpot. Marxism is anti-statist, says S&M. OK, but when and where has that happened in the past 100 years? Please. Socialism is all about centralized power. Did you read our link to You are what you spend? Worth reading, with two good charts. I am not alarmed, because these people have no idea what a murderous, raping, hate-filled, sociopathic thug Guevara was. To the youth and the ignorant, he is a romantic figure and little more. In truth, he was about as romantic as Robespierre. They don't know because nobody told them. Meanwhile, for Moonbats who know nothing, the peoples' paradise of Cuba remains a shining beacon.
