We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
"Is this is where the Libertarian rubber meets the moral, umm, road?"
"Libertarian"? Easy, buddy. The girls here are what's known as "regular people" and wouldn't know a politicial ideology if it bit 'em on the ankle.
As far as the topic goes, there are a ton of arguments in favor of legalizing prostitution, and the only one against came over on a boat from England 400 years ago. Myself, I prefer to view things in a more modern light.
"The girls here ..." Are you talking about the girls on this blog, the girls draped over the computer from which you type, or American girls in general? If the latter is the case, which foreign country's attitude are you imbibing and touching yourself with in fond aspect?
Hookers have been everywhere in the world I've been. They'll always be there. Like drugs. Hookers in beginning of mankind and drugs as well.
It is a fruitless waist of time to continue pursuing these two vices. Legalize both, tax them and remove a huge portion of the worlds bad guys money. More people are in jail for smoking dope than any other offense. That is absurd and turns the guy or gal who eschew a cocktail for a bong hit from a person who probably does not think too much about our government into someone who hates it.
The "War on Drugs" ...into it's 40th year and at every turn the government has lost, spent huge amounts of money, and lost gaining tax revenue.
Somehow we can abort 50 million babies since 1973 and just be bop down the road.
....one more thing about a nation with some serious cognitive dissonance.
9-11 and we see pictures of firemen carrying babes in their arms and we sigh a loving sigh.
Iraq War and we see a soldier or Marine caring for an innocent child, sometimes handing out candy , sometimes carrying the child like the 9-11 fireman...we're touched.
50 million, 50 million aborted babies in trash bags and we don't even blink. Partial birth abortions where the brains are vacuumed out of a human who in another eight inches would have all the protections of the Constitution and we look for the TV Guide. A sick nation.
