We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Rapinoe Asked At Presser What Exactly She's Protesting
She and her teammates should be air-dropped into Afghanistan, as that might throw the non-existent threat of their being "groped" by Donald Trump into sharper relief. Would offer these ladies a splendid opportunity to "resist", too.
A good piece from Wretch at Belmont Club on the rage fueling politics.
To say that the conservative-liberal dialogue was heated was an understatement. There was in the drumbeat a buildup suggestive of teams psyching themselves to do something bold, building up a mood of defiance and despair so incandescent that Andy Ngo, a conservative journalist preparing to cover an event in Oregon, feared for his safety. He tweeted on June 29, "I am nervous about tomorrow’s Portland antifa rally. They’re promising 'physical confrontation' & have singled me out to be assaulted." There were actual leaflets announcing the planned attack on Ngo.
He wasn't the only one nervous at developments. David Brooks warned that "the progressive narrative is dominating ... because no moderate wants to bear the brunt of progressive fury by opposing it" -- that the movement was increasingly held together by fear. As if to demonstrate the point, Brett Stevens, who argued in the NYT that Democrats were enforcing a punitive program on Americans, was himself given the treatment, dismissed as a "full-on bigot." In the hyperpartisan atmosphere, no disloyalty would be tolerated.
The mayor and the police were complicit in this left wing attack in Portland. Exactly as they were in the left wing attacks in Charlottesville.
IMHO the Antifa are terrorists. They are the left wing "brown shirts" of the Democrat party. It is against the law to attend demonstrations while wearing masks or other disguises. Their actions at these demonstrations were illegal. But the police did not enforce the laws because... well because the group is left wing and DNC approved.
I am a Democrat.
I joined the party in 1959 - just after I was discharged from the Marines. Me and three of my fellow Marines all joined.
That was when they appeared to be giving up their racist positions. Also, there was no Republican (or other) party in Georgia.
When asked why I remain in the party I always reply: "Because I hope my party returns to normalcy sometime but I don't think it will happen in my lifetime".
I know I'm not a Democrat because I have never been one. And having observed them for quite some years, I ain't ever agonna.
Democrats have an election truther problem: Dems don't DO truth.
For more than 200 years, our party [Democrat Party] has led the fight for civil rights...
Too bad these masked Portland pussies don’t come east to NYC.
Maybe they took a lesson from Zuccotti Park in November 2011, when NYPD’s mounted unit and helmeted, baton wielding cops, kicked the shit out of the Occupy Wall Street protesters and tore down their camp in the park.
It was fun to stand there and watch real cops do their jobs.
Portland’s a waste anyway, been a dumpster fire since the early 80’s.
Portland Antifa...declare insurrection and remove the thugs for internment in tent camps. They are protected from reality by politicians that operate like the Charlottesville political gestapo. AGW...fake news and fake science since Rachael Carson and Silent Spring. NSA illegally collecting date...Until government employees do extensive jail terms and fines this will continue as no one is at "fault".
"Rapinoe Asked What Exactly She's Protesting" Old Joke -A hippy is asked what are you protesting. He replied 'what do you have man?'
Bill Nye: "You know what climate change is like? It's just like D-Day."
Kamala is not eligible to run for president unless she can produce documents (not fakes) confirming that her parents were citizens at the time of her birth.
For that matter, neither is Tulsi. The Constitution calls for 2 (two, dos, deux, zwei) citizen parentS. Samoa doesn't birth U.S. citizens.
Forget Putin. I want to know what Pelosi and family are worth, specifically before-and-after her political reign. Feinstein and family? Biden and family? Mitch and Sec'y Chao-McConnell? Lil Marco and his gang? Maxie Waters and Spouse? The whole bunch who have been employed BY US for over twelve years?
Transparency. Let's hear it for transparency!
No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.
I see no mention made of the parents' nationality. You just have to be born here.
I could be wrong but, I just don't see DeBlasio encouraging the NYPD to crack Antifa heads.
I liked the High Line all right. Gay men seem to like it - I don't know why. Blacks and Hispanics were uncommon - I don't know why. There were a disproportionate number of tourists.
The NYPD despise DeBlasio.
They’d do their job because it’s their job NOT to stand across the street and watch, when people are beating the crap out of other people with iron bars and tossing chemicals at them.
We don’t don’t tolerate that shit here, dude.
except that it is not at all like DDay. Hitler's positions were right there, waiting for attack. They were obvious to everyone who wanted to look. They could be attacked (and were beaten with great bravery).
Hitler's armies were not a ploy for scientists to get more funding, nor for the elite to take away our lifestyles.
feeblemeind, I'm surprised by your comment. The qualifications for president and vice-president are the only ones mentioning "natural born" (vs. native born) as a qualification. In the past, there has been volumes written on why the commander in chief should be such:
A 'natural born Citizen’ born in the country to parents who are both Citizens of the country when the child is born is a person born with unity of Citizenship and sole allegiance at birth. That minimizes chances of foreign influences on the child by birth circumstances which is exactly what John Jay had in mind when he suggested the term “natural born Citizen” to George Washington in his 1787 letter."
I was a Democrat once. This was in the immediate post-Watergate days, when the Republican response seemed to be quite disingenuous. Being from Louisiana, there was no other game in town anyway, and I stuck with them after I moved. At that time, there were other things going on in my life that probably colored my judgement, but that's another story.
This lasted until I showed up for another envelope-stuffuing exercise, and asked for a clarification off the positions of the two principal candidates for the Party's nomination. They somehow took this as disloyalty, and ran me off. I was pretty sore about that until my first five years in public service. This was a rude education in what one Director I worked for referred to as the difference between "the real world and the one we all live in."
The Democrats won't repent or otherwise rethink their position. There will be no return to normalcy. It's all about power with them. With very rare exception, they won't give that up, even if reality collapses around them.
But it's just like D-Day would have been if there were zero evidence of Nazis, and people kept screaming at you that 130,000 men should leave their homes and families and risk death on the beach to fight a foe that only you could see, and every time someone asked diffidently for evidence, you produced nonsense that you would later scrub and alter while insulting your adversaries and accusing them of wanting to kill the world. And you'd write and try to keep secret little manifestos in which you more or less openly admitted the purpose of the whole thing was to snooker idiots out of power and money.
