We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

But I'm at a loss for words when it comes to stuff like this.
We have a name for activists who don't want the media around. They are called fascists. They seek to impose their views by force, and having media around exposes their sometimes brutal and always childish behavior to the world. It has nothing to do with sensitivity or "safe space" (what the hell is that?). It has everything to do with hiding your aggression from visibility.
Now, as the University continues to spin out of control, we're learning that most of the claims were lies. We're learning the hunger striker is really just an entitled brat. The football team are just useful idiots, pawns in a bigger game of stupidity, which became apparent when the students sought to separate themselves to create "black only healing space."
I have no doubt these students have grandparents who fought to have schools integrated. So I'm confused. Did we come full circle? Is separate but equal the law of the land, or is separate but equal only in effect if and when a certain group of people say they want it to be in effect? I'm all for their right to voluntarily segregate themselves, but if they do so they should be aware they are simply making things unequal once again, and they have no standing to ask to be treated equally.
They have created a very arbitrary line. I think I'll go create my "white only healing space" to sort through my emotions on this, but I have a feeling I'd be called a racist for having that space. I know these kids are wrong. It's hard for opinions to be wrong, but when they are, they are usually wrong by a long shot. In this case there's no question. These are not students, because they've learned nothing and are acting out on childish impulses. If the university had a president, I'd think the correct response is to expel each and every one of them. There's always room for protest on campus, there's always room for freedom of speech. But there isn't room for lying, misrepresentation, and there's certainly no room for closing one's mind to history and/or the law simply because your emotions were 'triggered'. Time to grow up, snowflakes.

I'm happier everyday that non of this nonsense exists where I work nor where I live,I'm sure it is all bizarre and alien behaviour to most of us but to those subjected to this sjw crapit must be rather worrying.
I see no way to address the problem as long as The Narrative stays in force, and The Narrative states:
There can be no discussion of race unless it is on leftists terms. And those terms are:
1) Whites are the only ethnic group that can be racist.
2) Whites are violent, blacks are not.
3) Whites are liars blacks are not.
4) Whites are former slave owners, blacks were the slaves and that matters 150 years later.
5) Blacks are victims, whites are not.
To question any part of The Narrative brands one a ginger lynching racist.
Since rational solutions cannot even be discussed we continue down the path of insanity. To what end?
The argument that "I have been hurt, therefore I don't need to be concerned whether I hurt anyone else" is a strange one. It is easy to understand emotionally, because it is how all of us feel when we have lost our tempers. This is why losing one's temper is considered a bad thing, and training oneself to keep in control of emotions, even powerful ones, is important to living in a co-operative society.
It is clear that universities are going to be changing over the next few years, but I wonder how thorough it will be. As the knowledge of debt, the ease of accusation against others, and the decreasing practical value (as opposed to signalling value) of college persists, it will be less and less attractive.
Sumpn's gotta give.
I'm with you on that.
I remember a story from my college days. I was in my final semester, working on a news set. The guest came on and he was a radical liberal activist. He put up pictures of a GOP elephant dropping atomic weapons on Russia while at the same time withholding food from people at home. I was still a registered Republican at the time and I protested the pictures. He refused to take them down.
I turned to my professor and said "I can't work on this set as long as he is impugning my beliefs with nonsense like that."
The professor said "that's fine - you can take the day off and get an F for today. But just remember, when you go out in the real world you'll be asked to do things you don't like and you can't just walk out and get an F. You get the big F - FIRED."
I wound up taking the F for the day and ruminated on his comments. I came back the next day and apologized and told him his words had struck a chord with me. I realized I can't have everything I want, when I want, the way I want. It's not how the world works.
He praised me for coming back to him and saying that and gave me a D instead of an F for the day. In the grand scheme of things, no big deal. But where are professors that teach these lessons today?
Today, they are the woman in the video - Professor Click - calling for "muscle" to push the reporter out.
Meanwhile, loved professors are taking it in the neck.
These kids need a swift kick in the butt like I received.
I think for the most part those who are activists are simply using 'black pain' as a vehicle to take power. However I suspect there is real 'black pain' but mostly caused by what activists have said and done and what the media reports. I believe that many blacks do indeed think that the justice system is slanted against them and are ignorant of the truth. Blacks, mostly their children and young adults, commit crimes at 20 times the rate of whites and about 7 times the rate of hispanics. If the criminal justice system was absolutely fair, blind and a level playing field probably twice as many blacks would be in jail while at the same time our overall crime rates would drop to that of Canada (or other 1st world countries without large black populations). I don't know why blacks commit so many more crimes but I suspect it is because they are taught from birth (either by their parents and peers or by black activists) that they have been mistreated and discriminated against and to compensate they must take what they want. And of course another probably equally as large and valid component of the problem is the poor education rate of blacks which is also mostly driven by the same activists talking points and peer feedback that encourages crime.
There is a way to fix this and it is really quite simple (at least simple to state): Stop pandering to them and hold them to the same standard we hold all other citizens to. Our schools allow blacks to be promoted even when they have learned nothing simply to kick the problem to someone else. Our justice system gives 2nd, 3rd, 4th and Nth chances to blacks because we don't want even the appearance of a unfair or racist justice system.
We won't do any of this of course. It is easier and safer for anyone in a position of power to go with the flow. If this year we are promoting students who can't read instead of requiring them to learn to read than why fight it. If we are allowing black children (like Trayvon) to get away with crimes until he attacks the wrong person than so be it. (Little Trayvon would be alive today had his school's resource officer been allowed to report his crime. Because instead of canvassing another nieghborhood for another breakin he would have had to pay for his crime and his errant mother and father might have been forced to take care of him. Instead he was released on an unsuspecting population and later shot while trying to kill an innocent man.)
Because we are unwilling to do the hard work of correcting this problem we must accept the high murder and violent crime rate that goes with it. There is good news however: The left can use the high crime rate to usurp the constitution and hasten that inevitable day when the U.S. must collapse into tyranny. Well, it's good news if you are a lefty...
That's a variant of an important lesson we all must learn in the processing of growing up:
The graveyards are full of indispensable men. Ergo, you are not and never will be indispensable.
I fully support black-only healing spaces: all oppressed minorities: homosexuals, feminists, other minorities must immediately renounce their citizenship, abandon their property, and flee to Europe or Africa, where they will not be oppressed.
I think for the most part those who are activists are simply using 'black pain' as a vehicle to take power.
As it was fifty years ago, it is now. why change a winning hand?
I think the right is just as willing to do that as the left, given the relatively small space of differentiation between the wings lately.
There are few politicians today who would willingly shrink the role of government, and even fewer seeking power to yield it back to states or individuals.
There are some. But there are few.
President of Mizzou, if he had the guts and understood what his job was:
"To the football team: either show up for practice and play the game or start paying your own tuition, fees and housing - or pack your bags and go home. The team exists to serve the University. The University does not exist to serve the team. Our mission is academics, not athletics."
I wonder what'd have happened if you'd have put up pictures of a donkey kicking a black guy in the dirt while holding up a Soviet flag.
I think you'd have been ordered to take them down...
