We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Well, Bird Dog has gone off for a few days to make sure his mountain redoubt/bolthole is still stocked with beans and ammo. That means you're stuck with me, Roger, the King of Sicily.
Oh dear. Bloggers would have to produce their own text and stop linking to newspapers they purport to hate.
There's a term for borrowing money to pay existing investors instead of trying to turn a profit.
The Bladen Journal reports that a mummified hand found in Castleton, North Yorkshire, England is the only known ‘Hand of Glory’, a grotesque artifact meant to aid thieves in their work during the night, still in existence. This mummified hand supposedly has the power to “entrance humans” according to the Express. Hands of Glory were also a favorite tool for thieves and creative storytellers for over 200 years.I hereby propose we call Obama's autopen the Hawaiian Hand of Glory.
Do I contradict myself? Very well, then I contradict myself, I am large, I contain multitudes.
Better than what they have now. Neither could carry Adenauer's jockstrap, however.
Six of us lived in a 960 square foot ranch, and were about average. Why do Millennials demand a trophy for everything? Move.
I'll bet both investors are divorce lawyers
The future of sustainable agriculture is all about smart technology and scaling up
I see the generation that thinks they invented small apartments thinks they invented agriculture the week before.
Well, everybody sally forth and make sure you make enough money today to buy sustainably grown tomatoes before the farm goes out of business and you're forced to buy the pinkish baseballs they always had at the A&P.

I am not sure this is the right place to ask this question--but, I thought I would help Roger today.
What exactly does one have to do to be guilty of "inciting to riot"?
Just my opinion as a humble backyard gardener, but more than 'organic' I feel naturally ripened tomatoes make more difference. At least over the store bought. Organic is overpriced, I avoid 'Organic' when shopping.
Whether the plants were fertilized with cow dung or chemicals I don't care. Modern pesticides are safe, I don't like feeding the entire insect world. The varieties planted should be heirloom; each spring I plant at least four different types of plants.
We had a strange year, the cherry tomatoes were incredibly productive. Nothing else came in large. Even the beefsteak were at their biggest, medium. The season went on forever, I have red tomatoes on the vine right now even though the plants dead.
May not garden next year, in a summer of moderate drought for the increase in the water bill (highest priced water in the nation, thankyou Feds) would have paid for buying all my produce at the farmers market, three times over.
I grow tomatoes because they taste so good and so much better than what I can buy in the store.
This year we bought peaches and canned them. I have to admit I tried to discourage mrs. Gone because it isn't cheaper than buying canned peaches and it's a lot of work. But she grew up canning food and wants to do it. In the prep process I ate one of the peaches. Honest to god I heard angels sing and looked around to make sure no one was watching because the moment felt so intimate (well maybe that's a little exaggeration). Those local peaches picked at just the right moment were delicious, best I've ever tasted.
another one: What exactly does one have to do to be guilty of "inciting to riot"?
“organize, promote, encourage, participate in, or carry on a riot”
18 U.S. Code § 2102
Organic gardening in the First World is a luxury.
"Sustainable Farming" is an oxymoron if you ignore the billions who depend on our exports. If organic farming were to be implemented on a global scale, billions of people would die.
If we want to sustain the billions of people then food must be produced as efficiently as possible. In many cases, taste has been replaced by longer shelf life (for transport) or higher yields.
The Third World has no choice. They have no money for fertilizers, organic or otherwise. They live right on the edge. If nature does not help, they die.
"President Obama’s senior adviser Valerie Jarrett met with Black Lives Matter activists yesterday at the White House, the latest sign that the Obama administration is involved with the controversial protest group."
...and first world progressives protest against 'GMO' crops being developed, about which they understand nothing.
That seem right to you?
