We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I recently submitted a building permit application for a new house.
It was going to be 100 ft. tall and 400 ft. wide with 9 gun turrets at various heights and windows all over the place and a loud outside entertainment sound system. It would have had parking for 200 cars and I was going to paint it snot green with pink trim.
The City Council told me to forget about it.
So, I sent the application in again, but this time I called it a Mosque.
Barrister ... Love your post. I'm so glad that I permanently gave up political correctness and multiculturism when I hit 78 years of age. It's such a relief!
Look at how that elitist nincompoop Mayor Bloomberg of New York is twisting in the wind trying to justify the Ground Zero Mosque to his constituents. "It's just a universal prayer center and a cultural center," he insists. Yeah, right. Put on a yarmulke and carry a Torah, or a priestly collar and carry a Bible and try to join them in prayer. You'd never be seen again.
Although this happens to be funny, unfortunately the times we are living in, this seems quite real. I am waiting for the automated voices from business establishments to have automated voices saying, "press #1 for Spanish, press #2 for Arabic, and press #3 for English.

You think English will be in the top 3? Isn't that being a bit optimistic?
