Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Thomas Sowell is a manly negro who keeps hope alive with his clear understanding of issues.
Most recently he castigates Hussein0's shakedown and extortion of BP, rightly calling it tyranny. The Muhammadan bastard has no constitutional authority to take (extort) $20,000,000,000,000 nor to give it to an illegal czar to distribute it. Democrats have clearly produced an illegal government operating with no due process of law. The BP shakedown clearly shows Hussein0, an evil tyrant rejoicing in criminality. OT Leag, have you ever seen this essay on Southern wimmen? I received this from a gal that was raised in the Texas Panhandle. Apologies to the proprietors of MF for hijacking the thread.
"Perhaps all y'all who are not from the South might get some understandin' from this little lesson. Southern women know their Summer weather report: Humidity Humidity Humidity Southern women know their vacation spots: The beach The rivuh The crick Southern Women know everone's first name: Honey Darlin' Shugah Southern women know the movies that speak to their hearts: Fried Green Tomatoes Driving Miss Daisy Steel Magnolias Gone With The Wind Southern women know their religions: Baptist Methodist Football Southern women know their cities dripping with southern charm Chawl'stn Adlanna Nawlins Foat Wuth S'vanah Southern Women know their elegant gentlemen: Men in uniform Men in tuxedos Rhett Butler Southern women know their prime real estate: The mall The country club The beauty salon Southern girls know the three deadly sins: Having bad hair and nails Having bad manners Cooking bad food More Suthenisms: Only a Southerner knows the difference between a hissy fit and a conniption fit, and that you don't have them, you PITCH them. Only a Southerner knows how many fish, collard greens, turnip greens, peas, beans etc., make up a "mess' Only a Southerner can show or point out the general direction of "yonder' Only a Southerner knows how long "directly' is, as in: "I am going to town, will be back directly." Even Southern babies know that "gimme some sugar' is not a request for the sweet, white granular substance that sits in a pretty bowl in the middle of the table All Southerners know exactly when "by and by" is. They might not use the term but they know the concept well. Only a Southerner knows instinctively that the best gesture of solace for a neighbor who has got trouble is a plate full of hot fried chicken and a big bowl of cold potato salad. If the neighbor's problem is a full blown crisis, they also add a large banana puddin' Only Southerners grow up knowing the difference between a 'right near' and 'right far' piece. They also know that 'just down the road' could be 1 mile or 20. Only a Southerner knows and understands the difference between a red-neck, a good ol' boy and po' white trash. No true Southerner would ever assume that a car flashing a turn signal is actually about to make a turn. A Southerner knows that 'fixin' can be used as a noun, a verb, or an adverb. Only Southerners make friends while standing in lines. We talk to everbody. Put 100 Southerners in a room and half of them will discover they are related, if only by marriage. In the South, y'all is singular, all y'all is plural. Southerners know grits come from corn and how to eat them. Every Southerner knows tomatoes with eggs, bacon, grits and coffee are perfectly wonderful; that Red Eye gravy is also a breakfast food and that fried green tomatoes are not served at breakfast. When you hear someone say, "I caught myself lookin' ", you are in the presence of a genuine Southerner. Only true Southerners say 'sweet tea' and "sweet milk'. Sweet tea indicates the need for sugar and lots of it. We don't drink our tea unsweetened. Sweet milk means you don't want buttermilk. A true Southerner knows you don't scream obscenities at a little old lady driving 30 mph. You just say. "Bless her heart.' and go on your way. To those of you that are still embarrassed by your Southerness, take two tent revivals, some sausage gravy and call me in the morning. Bless your heart. And to those of you who are still having a hard time understanding all this southern stuff... bless your hearts. I hear they are fixin' to have classes on Southerness as a second language. And for those of you who are not from the South but have lived here for a long time, all y'all need to hang a sign on your porch that sez, "I ain't from the South, but I got here as fast as I could.' The Kristol link led to a good article on BP on the Weekly Standard webpage:
Beyond Pathetic: BP’s Gulf disaster was no surprise to those who understood the corporate culture, by Andrew Wilson. As John Browne, who retired as CEO of BP in 2007, states in his memoir, published early this year, the Baker Panel investigating the 2005 explosion at a BP refinery in Texas City found that “We had not done enough to make process safety a core value. We had emphasized that individuals had to be safe when they went about their daily work—‘personal safety.’ … But we had not emphasized that processes and equipment had to be safe under all circumstances and operated in a safe way at all times—‘process safety.’” The article quotes both an engineer and engineering professor who had worked for BP before the Texas City disaster, who both observed BP’s lack of attention to processes and equipment to insure that equipment was maintained in a safe condition and always operated in a safe way. Such penny wise and pound foolish approaches were company wide. According to Wilson's article, BP and Enron invented cap and trade. Here Wilson quotes Browne from 13 years ago, most likely from his speech at Stanford University: “In order to know where to reduce carbon emissions, we wanted to develop a simple emissions trading scheme within the company. It would become the first of its kind. And the person instrumental in helping us set this up was Fred Krupp, head of the Environmental Defense Fund, an environment NGO. We had come full circle. This NGO had virtually single-handedly halted the construction of the Trans Alaska Pipeline in the early 1970s.” As Wilson points out, it is more than ironic to use the failure of BP at its core business of petroleum as an incentive to pass cap and trade, when BP had been one of the pioneers in cap and trade. Would you go to Madoff for any advice after it had been discovered he had defrauded investors out of billions? This does not justify Oilbama’s $20 billion shakedown, but it does give further perspective on BP. A company which billed itself as “Beyond Petroleum” and pushed cap and trade was in fact way behind competency in petroleum, its core business. (Here is a link to Browne's 1997 Stanford University Speech, at least as much as Google Books will allow.) My Obama-bashing credentials are strong enough for me to say a few things.
If Obama is an illegitimate son, that's the doing of his parents. No sin attaches to him for it. Obama is not a "Mohammedan" nor a Muslim. Muslims find the term Mohammedan offensive, since it mis-identifies their religious allegiance. Obama's lifestyle is not Islamic and never has been. He can appear Islamic mostly because he is so reflexively anti-American. I'll help you go after jihadis and Muslim-supremacists, often called Islamists. I will gripe at comments that seem bigoted toward any group. I can respect that a Muslim believes as sincerely as I do without embracing that belief. Son, yall may take the Muhammadan out of Islam but yall cain't take Islam out of Muhammadan boys.
?Ašhadu ?an l? il?ha illa ll?h, wa ?ašhadu ?anna Mu?ammada ras?lo ll?h; el presidente confesses and holds to be most beatiful sound. A buraq nit may offend folks who worship Muhammad's devilah, Geoff and certain, it will offend el presidente. Have yall ever wondered how islam's devilah comes down to the lowest heaven? Muhammad is said to have visited it in highest heaven on a girly-faced buraq. Perhaps, devilah borrows buraq for early morning descents, OR maybe, just hitches a ride on one of her nits. Learn something about yall's enemy, and worry not about offending miscreants. Feeblemind, thanks fer this.
