We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Obama’s Chicago enforcer Rahm Emanuel got lots of heat for calling my-way-or-the-highway liberals “f**king retards.”All the criticism was for him using the disparaging word “retards” and none for his frequent use of the adjective.Hmm?Via Instapundit, an Emanuel theme song. That’s the Chicago way, and mine from Brooklyn, and probably yours too.
rhhardin ... You really have got quite a dislike for Mrs. Palin, don't you? What is it you resent about her? That she is a good mother to her five children, and tries to protect her Down syndrome child, and those who love that child, from pejorative remarks?
... And another thing. I agree that 'retard' is an ignorant and unattractive descriptor. But, maybe it's my generation or something, I feel that the 'f' word is not a word to be used in intelligent conversation. So, Rahm Emanuel doubly sinned, in my opinion.
I remember back when we wrote letters, my father telling me that I should "never write something in a letter that I didn't want to see in print." That was good advice then, and even better advice now that there's an Internet. Anything one writes on the Internet should be considered to last forever, because it mostly does. And twenty years from now, when I'm gone to that great greenhouse in the sky, I don't want to be remembered for swearing obscenely rather than thinking clearly.
