Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Andrew Gelman on the Election

Voters making over $200,000/year (which is upper-middle class, except in NY, CT, and parts of CA) voted well over 50% for Obama. Will Wilkinson discusses the demographics of the election with Andrew Gelman, author of Red State, Blue State, Rich State, Poor State.

Among many other topics, he attempts to understand how formerly Repub states like NY, CT and California became Democratic. Also, a bit on happiness and "progress."

SHC is a serious matter, and has been discussed several times over the years on Coast-to-Coast, my favorite program, to which I am returning as a listener, now that unimportant things like elections are over.

The best precaution seems to be to always walk in twos, each partner carrying a light weight fire extinquisher.

In other news, Zogby has a poll out showing 57% of Obama voters could not identify which party controlled Congress the last two years.

You forgot to include NJ, most of MA, and the Philly and DC areas as places where $200k family income is middle class and people vote counter to their best interests.

It seems like so much of the leftist illuminati got their voters by promising specific groups things, like money. That's why I find it very surprising that the wealthy (who know they will be taxed heavily) voted for him. It's all about self-preservation usually.. right?
