We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Hoping your race prevails, determined that all against you are racist, clinging to skin color alone... sounds like Hitler.
Obama isn't even really black, he just looks it. But that seems to be enough for the author and all blacks before or after (BBO or ABO) to seek as qualifications. He gives scant mention of the actual politics of candidate O, but returns time and time again to the notion that skin color is the most important thing to blacks.
Maybe they are just conditioned by our racist system, certainly it's someone else's fault they too are shallow racists.....
The article was written from the perspective of a committed, reflexive Democrat. Perhaps if he and other African-Americans were not so entirely in the Democrat column, and were to give the Republican party a chance, they would have a better chance--in fact twice the chance--of getting one of their own elected as President or VP. Percentage wise, African-Americans are a shrinking racial minority in the US. In the future, if they want to have real political leverage and avoid having their votes taken for granted, it makes sense for them to consider the Republican party.
