Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Friday, August 29. 2008Can anybody say they know Obama? The psychiatrist Krauthammer notes, interestingly, that there is nobody to vouch for Obama. Shrinks are trained to notice things like that: how do people relate, and to whom. Where are the witnesses to his ability? Where are his friends and colleagues? Are there any left? A quote:
Yes, he does seem like the elegant mysterious stranger who arrived out of nowhere like the Music Man. Immature people without personal foundations fill in those blanks with their own hopes and dreams. The reality is that he is a fine but not extraordinary black preacher/talker who has never done much, who nobody seems to really know, who carries a barely-covert communitarian message which is not my vision of America (except in my own neighborhood, where we all give eachother a hand). Fantasy is fun, as is ego-tripping. Reality is the problem, and hard reality is often a bummer. Let's grow up, America, and not feed on pixie-dust.

Give me some pixie-dust. Does it heal schisms of the soul?
The man with the brass ring didn’t say anything new. I don't agree with his politics, but I enjoyed the rallying cry and liked what I saw in terms of presentation. His purpose was to rally his base, and that base did not want to sit there and listen to a line-item description of exactly how he's going to pull off his plans - just as McCain won't do it on his night. I'm capable of thought, free will, and I can separate the wheat from the chaff. But I refuse to say his performance sucked because it didn't. In a way, it was very sad. 84 thousand people turned out for Obama and cried and cheered, and some say it was like a Hitler rally because Hitler turned out crowds like that. Well, we're not Germany, and damned if this country doesn't need some change. Not liberal change, but something to stop the bleeding and agony of our relentless partisanship. That’s reality. I don’t want Obama to win, but I’m glad he made it if for no other reason than he is proof the American Dream is still alive; and God knows long after the echoes of his words fade away, the image of him picking up his little girl and holding close his daughter and wife will serve as inspiration to a country long in need of it. Meta,
From the lack of definition Obama has so far hidden from our view with regard to the specifics of his life, ideology, associations, achievements, and all other areas normally vetted by the press and population when considering a man for the highest office in the land, I would say that all the people in attendance would have listened to ANYTHING Obama said and been overcome with joy. Whether you are aware of the rhetorical device you've employed in making your point or not is not a factor; IF you are unaware that you have written to bury Caesar, not to praise him. The encomium you expressed for the garnish cannot be followed by particulars for damning his agenda since no one knows what that agenda is. It's limn we know is Marxist. I would have thought it better to have recognized Obama the con man for what he is and damn him for it rather than to praise the paint scheme on his snake oil wagon. We can't be at once the greatest country on Earth and in need of all the changes that go undefined. Our restless partnership is built into the system and has been so acknowledged so by philosophers from the time of Plato and Aristotle so "curing" them is not possible. The American dream gets refreshed every day when a new industry is developed, an Apple or Microsoft, and soon someone will discover a way to do something else more productively, but without government intervention. And yes it is always moving to have a father pick up his child but I am inspired more when I see one of our soldiers do it to a child not his own, in a land he has helped liberate from a tyrant. That is true inspiration for me, not the choreographed stage extravaganza that would have done Hitler proud at the Nuremburg rallies in 1933. Obama deserves the distain of our nation, not it’s praise, and we will shortly find out more lies he has told about his association with the unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers and the Weather Underground. Obama is playing many for mindless, unquestioning fools. Obama's Ethnic Heritage
Obama Watch: "Obama is descended from blacks who maintained an Arab identity Post below excerpted from Kenneth E. Lamb. See the original for links Sen. Obama's autobiography is filled with 'composite' characters, rearranged timelines, and fantasy events that never occurred. I read that twice in the Washington Post - read Richard Cohen's columns of Jan. 1, 2008, and March 27, 2007, for yourself. There are more articles than that, by more authors than just Mr. Cohen, but I wanted to get started by saying that what follows isn't just something I'm pulling out of thin air. What follows is serious, documented, and not at all what those who want to write history about the election of the first so-called 'African-American' president, want in the least to admit is true - and why its truth matters more than their desire to ignore the truth for the sake of their desire to write history. While his shrill wife objects, the truth is that Sen. Obama's life, as he wrote about himself in his autobiography, is, in fact, nothing but a fairy tale. Again, don't take my word for it - read Mr. Cohen's, and others, articles about it. Why is the fact that Mr. Obama is only 6.25% African Negro not reported? Because to acknowledge it is to report this devastating truth about him: Mr. Obama is not legally African-American. It is impossible for him to be, in truth, America's first African-American president. But no matter what he craves, no matter what he has used to propel himself through life, no matter the racist presumption of seeing his skin and without question calling him black, the hard, cold, genetically inarguable reality remains: he is not an African-American. Mr. Obama is 50% Caucasian, that from his mother. What those who want Mr. Obama to write history by becoming "America's first African-American president" ignore is that his father was ethnically Arabic, with only 1 relative ethnically African Negro - a maternal great-grandparent (Sen. Obama's great-great grandparent, thus the 6.25% ethnic contribution to the senator's ethnic composition.). That means that Mr. Obama is 50% Caucasian from his mother's side. He is 43.75% Arabic, and 6.25% African Negro from his father's side. Put another way, his father could honestly claim African-American ethnic classification. He was the last generation able to do so." The question no one wants to answer - particularly Mr. Obama and his supporters, is, "Why do you think he has an Arabic name? Why does his father have an Arabic name? Why does every ancestor on his father's side have an Arabic name?" The answer is obvious: They have Arabic names because his father's side of the family tree is Arabic. Need proof? Research the Kenyan records for yourself. You will find that his father was officially classified as "Arab African" by the Kenyan government. Posted by herbaceous at 4:11 AM That such measurements of "ethnic percentages" might be in any way valid or relevant reveals both a shocking degree of racism and support for a state structure in which such things are measured. Measured, presumably, so as to be given weight in arguments just like yours.
There is one race: The HUMAN race. The presidency is qualified by three things: Age, citizenship, and pursuading enough people to vote for you in a sufficient number of states to win the electoral college. Muddying up the waters with racist foolishness ought to make thinking people question the neocon shadow government you apparently fear losing even more than their pathetic record and reputation would seemingly require. This thread asks, "Where are all of Obama's friends?" Compares him to GATSBY! Jumped up jebus on skis. George Bush brought all of HIS friends right along with him. Cheney made millions of Haliburton stock with no bid contracts in a war they lied to start; the incompetent Harriet Miers was nominated to the USSC (thankfully the joke was withdrawn); Where's Rumsfeld books are soon to rival Where's Waldo; Libby got pardoned; Rove is now pulling the same sleazy shit used to get Bush elected TWICE...and you worry about the fact that Obama ISN'T dragging around an entourage of sycophants and puppeteers? That you apparently consider yourself a "free thinker" - someone immune to the propagandist manipulations of those who would subvert your great nation, the post which prompted this reply comes off very much like an UNthinking, ultra-right, neo-nazi, regurgitation of blinding foolishness. Jay Gatsby was driven in his pursuit of success by his love for (can't remember her name.)
What is the equivalent for Obama. Habu, (Katy)
I'd take the time to bury you if it was worth it, but you missed my point and used what you thought it was to serve up gratuitous walls of extremely tiresome text that echo so dully as to be wallpaper. "We can't be at once the greatest country on Earth and in need of all the changes that go undefined." If you believe that, you might perhaps go bury yourself for yielding to the belief that perfection is attainable when human nature is the vehicle to that perfection. Passion more than logic leads to change, and you can't seem to grasp that human nature responds first to passion - even if it is to just kill it in another - and then to logic. Appreciate passion and take note whether you mock its genesis or applaud it, it will bring about something that will lead us to think - apparently a small gift you easily cast aside for rote deliverance of talking points so abused and sodden as to turn the pixie dust in our eyes to sand. ` I don't understand your love for Obama. Simple enough for even you to understand. What is a (Habu)? some kind of lesbian slur?
Habu,
Work on your reading comprehension - and especially study symbolism. You know I do not make slurs against lesbians and gays. |
