We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Did anyone notice that Obama's prayer text was all about me-me-me and mine-mine-mine? We are apt to chuckle at beauty contest contenders who ask for "world peace" [or "whirled peas"] as the joke goes. But one should at least hope for a better understanding between the peoples of other countries and of ours. And peace between the warring factions in Congress would be nice. He could have mentioned that.
I would add to Phil's list the related sin of the actual meaning of "taking the Lord's name in vain." It has nothing to do with bad language or even bad promises. It means forging God's signature under your own ideas - i.e., pretending to speak for Him.
