Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

The inherent right - Updated

From the Supremes today:

“The inherent right of self-defense has been central to the Second Amendment right...”

Without self-defense, a person becomes a sheep in a world with wolves.

Bravo to the five Justices who honor our Constitution over their personal preferences, and bravo to Justice Scalia for putting it all in historical context. The justices'  personal opinions should have no role in their job: it's not what they are paid to do. After all, everybody has an opinion on everything. Opinions on stuff are a dime a dozen.

Anyway, it's a big step in the right direction. More later...

That sweet girl was so thrilled with the Supremes ruling she forgot to put her shirt on. Tut-tut. Oh well -- she provided the linear thinkers among us with a lot of harmless fun.

And don't be mean about blondes, Bird Dog. I've known some brunettes who weren't so good at multi-tasking.

5-4 is way too close. One or two appointments under Obama and the Dem majority senate would have ruled this decision differently.

For all of you whining about McCain...this should be motivation enough. He's solid on originalist fed justices.

Let me get this straight:
When not even 7 days ago McCain boasted to a Dem audience that he had voted in favor of Breyer and Ginsberg this caused you no concern?

Politics, probably, but no concern there?

I might be "whining" but this: "He's solid on originalist fed justices" is simply delusional. But it's all a big show to get elected, I accept that, but don't kid yourself.... originalist, that's funny.

I understood McCain's comment to be about the job of the Senate being to consider qualifications, not ideology. If you look at the votes to confirm for the current SCOTUS, you will see that Republicans have honored that custom and Democrats have not.

You have only two choices: one's a avowed hard core leftist socialist the other not so conservative.

While you're fussing and fuming about lack of perfection, I and hope enough other people will be voting for the better of the two options.

It's not about McCain. It's about stupid statements like: "He's solid on originalist fed justices". I am willing to drink the VoteMAC koolaid, I however don't think it serves anyone on "our" side to engage in DOUBLETHINK.

Maybe you should read 1984 again. Trite, I know. The act of simultaneously believing two mutually exclusive concepts is a sign of mental problems brought on by the machine that has brought us such a fools choice. I am looking out for you. How many simply fingers-in-ears-la-la-la statements about McCain can people make before the election?

Recently I have only posted about McCain in response to DOUBLETHINK from commenters. "he's conservatve" "he is originalist" Ha! If you think handing our country over to the Mexican invasion and erasing our borders is conservative or originalist you are in need of some new glasses and maybe a hearing aid battery.
