Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

The Fed's two-way stretch - and the Devil

Sometimes forces defy control, like weather. This about captures it.

It's not a perfect world, and only the seductive and subtle salesman Devil himself would suggest that it could be otherwise. Life will teach us humility, if nothing else: it seems designed to do so.

Furthermore, as our Dr. Bliss often says, no two people would ever agree on what "perfect" might mean anyway. For some, it's the womb. For others, it's constant challenge and difficulty.

Nice quote Marianne. Lets hope the times stay interesting, and don't get nasty. I think this is just the begining of some pretty deep doo doo. I hope I am wrong. - - - - - - - - Did you get a chance to listen to Michael Buble' yet?

That article smacks a bit of schaudenfruede...I think it over the top gloomy. While we certainly have our challenges ahead the Brits never miss a chance to take a good poke at us.

If they're so damned good at running an economy why does their standard of living suck so bad for the middle class?

Except--no recession yet. There was growth last quarter (and IIRC the one before), and it takes two (count'em two[2]) quarters of negative growth (and not growth less than the previous quarter) to make a recession.

Right...but that doesn't hardly make for an interesting article. Much better to make up and write about 'crisis' 'colapse' 'impending disaster' 'depression' yada yada yada.
