We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Imus interviewed Rolling Stone's Jan Wenner this morning, about Wenner's recent interview of Obama. (Wenner is an Obamamaniac, but it's all about style for him. And "change" - as Wenner profoundly said, and I paraphrase: "Everything is going so wrong. We all want change today.")
Anyway, Wenner said that Obama told him that his favorite song is Dylan's Maggies Farm, which he has on his iPod. Clearly we enjoy the spirit of the song too, but if Obama really wants to be a cool dude, he needs to get hip to Maggie's Farm blog.
I found it interesting that Maggie's Farm is also the title of a book by his friend and domestic terrorist William Ayres, "Hot Town: Summer in the City: I ain't gonna work on Maggie's Farm no more". Ayres ex-girlfriend died when a bomb she was building to bomb a dance for non-commissioned officers at Fort Dix exploded. Waaahhhh!!!! Isn't that a tragic loss to our country, or maybe instant karma!
It all makes perfect sense to me: Mr Dylan endorsed Obama so Obama thought he ought to know something about this American Icon of the '60's, the better to "relate" to Dylan's legions of baby boomer fans, like the typical Maggie's reader for example! What would be interesting is to see a post from the Dylanologist, or other guest "shrink", with the lyrics to Maggie's Farm annotated with Obama's thought associations as he sings along to this American Classic on his iPod. Now, we could have some fun with that one, couldn't we?! I would have to imagine that when Obama hears "Maggie" he's gotta think: "Hillary is going to steal this nomination from me in the end, I just know it." Well, let's put Obama on the couch and see what we come up with!
