We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

A free plug for Nike Dri-Fit

Nike's relatively new line of Dri-Fit polo shirts, trousers, etc, is worth knowing about, especially in summertime.

This stuff is extremely comfortable for golf, light as a feather, and never gets sweaty. The polo shirts are good for tennis, and do not get heavy with sweat. Polyester, but nothing like what one thinks of as polyester.

Their Tour Pleat Golf Pants are also the most comfortable travel pants I have ever worn.

I'm a Hanes tee shirt and Bermudas guy year round. The only fashion question is what sweat shirt/pants gets added in the winter.

Look at the www.cabelas.com , search for trail shorts, select 5" inseam (URL doesn't make it past the spam filter), on sale; they last forever, no holes in pockets from keys or boy scout knife.

The only other fashion question is what brand of crocs to wear.

Ackshully, Mr. Barrister, I suspect that they are made of microfiber, a miraculous kind of polyester to which I am personally addicted, because I live in a climate [Houston] where it is routinely 95 degrees or more for six months out of the year. And they call this a sub-tropical climate. Can you believe that?

Anywayyy, microfiber breathes, as opposed to other fabrics which don't, so that your hot body can release heat through the fabric and you don't feel nearly as hot as you do in heavy cotton [the interstices of which "felt up" after several washings]. Up until recently, I worked every day for hours in my greenhouse, and I can assure you that my microfiber shirts are one heck of a lot cooler than cotton.

If you're interested, Travelsmith catalogs have shirts in microfiber. Try one. I think you'll like it.

Microfiber is so comfortable it might be a sin. The material is so soft and airy it puts well worn flannel PJs to shame. Compared to Khakis it feels like you are walking around naked (this is a good thing). Microfiber pants are better than regular shorts and microfiber shorts are better still.

There are some drawbacks. They are pricey. You can't put them in the dryer which means you have to remember to pull them out and air dry em. They are plastic (polyester) so any kind of ember will melt a hole in them instantly (cigar, charcoal grill, etc).

But mainly, I'm a big fan.

$100 polos, heh. Must be nice. I'll have to stick with my $10 tees and those "PGA" wickawaythesweat $15 JC Penny thingies.
