Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Senate to debate

Good grief: Senate votes to begin global warming debate.

I have a much better idea for those guys and gals: Begin your summer vacations now. Leave Washington. Enjoy America - it's really a nice place full of tons of good people, even if it is a bit warm in the summertime.

My trade is in the recycling business and therefore in the ballpark of environmental issues.
I have seen over the 30 years in my industry, watched our politicians fiddle with the governments effects on public good and free enterprise. It has always cost the taxpayers a fortune while solving little but making themselves feel very, very good. I fear this will be a bigger catastrophic event.

Robert Byrd, of coal country, is in the hospital with "lethargy'. If it weren't for blessed death, we'd never get rid of some of the guys.

The old adage that "the People are never safe any day Congress is in session" has never been more true than the day they are debating a federal role in saving the world from the weather.

Remember when they used to close Washington, DC during the summer because of the heat?

President Grant would go to the Jersey Shore and spent the summer at Cape May.

We could use a lot more lengthy holidays for Congress whose motto should be the same as any doctor's: "First, do no harm."
