We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I don't think so. This is a piece of sophist reasoning by Maggie's Farm that ignores the last couple of sentences where in Turley notes that the existence of the right does not remove the state's obligation to limit, control, or regulate. The NRA has done a disservice to America by defending a 'right' in the face of manifest misuse by a section of society. Where exactly is the victory when children are killed by stray bullets from far too many guns in New Orleans, Washington DC, Boston, LA and New York City. Since human kind created orderly society and the notioin of law this problem, judgment versus law, has bedeviled us. In this case the NRA and its devotes of purism have cost far more lives than they have saved, wasted far more resource than they have saved, and corrupted the legal community in America. There should be no pride in the author of this post or any other is aligning with this malignant position.
Always enjoy your contrary views. It's not fun to be a pure echo chamber. I understand your point. The NRA has to take a strong view, because they know compromises will happen. That's the way politics works.
I have commented on several sites that have noticed this article with a cautionary warning:
- Several mainstream media opinion writers have recently come out with a similar stance wrt guns. I have seen that several more will in the coming weeks / months. This - to me - is a coordinated effort to spread a message. The message? That gun control is not a reason to hate Liberals, as Liberals no longer believe gun control is a major issue.
This exact process was used in Australia during a recent election - former anti-gun politicians 'changed their tune' / 'saw the light'. Immediately after being elected, the banned nearly all guns.
Don't fall for it - a scorpion does what it does. A leopard does not change it's spots.
