Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

On June 25, the following resolution was tabled in the House:

“That this House, while paying tribute to the heroism and endurance of the Armed Forces, in circumstances of exceptional difficulty, has no confidence in the central direction of the war.”

That would be June 25, 1942. The House would be the House of Commons in London, England. And the government in which no confidence was expressed was that of Winston Churchill.

Just a few weeks later the British 8th Army stopped Rommel's drive to the Suez (the "First Battle of El Alamein", July '42), making the high water mark of Hitler's war on England.

Then after the Second El Alamein, driving Rommel into full retreat in October that year, it became easier for the House of Commons to back the PM.

You know, after he didn't need them, they were willing to help.

If you show signs of visible success, everything will change. It's called "politics," and it is the ugliest, dirtiest, most soul-corrupting game in the world.

The question is whether the press will show any signs of success - assuming there are such signs (which there appear to be).

I suspect they will show as little as they can get away with, so as to maintain their 'fair and balanced' persona.

They do have to maintain that image else all is really lost for them with the great middle.

WHEN I'M 100, IF I LEAN A LITTLE, LET ME!


The family wheeled Grandma out on the lawn, in her
wheelchair, where the activities for her 100th
birthday were taking place. Grandma couldn't speak
very well, but she could write notes when she needed
to communicate.

After a short time out on the lawn, Grandma started
leaning off to the right, so some family members
grabbed her, straightened her up, and stuffed pillows
on her right.

A short time later, she started leaning off to her
left, so again the family grabbed her and stuffed
pillows on her left.

Soon she started leaning forward, so the
family members again grabbed her and then tied a
pillowcase around her waist to
hold her up.

A grandson, who arrived late, came up to Grandma and
said, "Hi, Grandma,
you're looking good! How are they treating you?"

Grandma took out her little notepad and slowly wrote a
note to the nephew...

"They won't let me fart."

The Clinton Campaign has claimed that indication are very strong that NASCAR fans, traditionally conservative are turning her way.
Ross Feldstien claims that internal polling shows that NASCAR track owners and fans are moving to the Clinton Camp
“We see it every weekend, where thousands of NASCAR fans and track owners wildly applaud where NASCAR is going”
When asked to clarify what indications in their polling showed such a move Mr. Feldstein relied, “ Itsn’t it apparent? Hundreds of thousands of fans and millions more on TV watch the NASCAR drivers in action. Which way do they go? Around to the left. They’re staying left the entire time, it’s an obvious signal that they are in our orbit”

Paralyzed man survives 2nd brush with death on collapsing bridge

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota (CNN) -- Seven years ago, police in North Carolina covered shooting victim Marcelo Cruz with a tarp, believing he was dead. He wasn't. Cruz survived the street fight shooting, but was left paralyzed from the waist down. First responders noted however that the third time is the arms.

That Love article is great. Down into it a ways, the experiments--esp on the bridges--is very revealing. All unattached-as-yet should read the whole thing sixty-dozen-hundred times.
