We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Brussels - The European Commission on Tuesday criticised the reported United States airstrike against a suspected al-Qaeda cell in southern Somalia, calling it counterproductive to peace efforts for the war-torn African country.
Is that predictable? I call it highly constructive to peace. Ya gotta love that nasty airplane - my second favorite after the A-10. It sounds like the bad guys were driven into a trap. (h/t, Polipundit)
Update: I see our Special Ops came back to the same area today to bounce the rubble. Jolly good show.
The rate of fire on the new AC-130U is considerably slower than earlier models.
The first AC130s had 4 7.62mm miniguns (4000 rounds per minute) 2 20mm M61 cannons (up to 6000 rpm) and 2 40 mm Bofors cannons (120 RPM each). Then they got rid of the minigun and went with 2 20mm, one 40mm and a 105mm howitzer.
Then they replaced the fixed 20mm cannons with one trainable 25mm cannon. Now they’re replacing that and the 40mm with 2 30mm cannons, each putting out 250 rpm.
So now they’ll only have to carry 2 kinds of ammo - 30mm and 105mm, and won’t have any more gattling guns. But the impact of each round is huge.
ED NOTE: A total of 500 rpm of 30mm is a very lethal rain. Thanks for the info.
