We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
These people are, like, in, like, you know, college? I pity their parents, if they are paying the, you know, bills. Especially if a parent is a, like, police officer. From Students Honor Cop Killer:
“If you look at it at face value and think about what she did, it might seem wrong, but I think you really have to, like, look beyond the whole thing with the cops to really understand, like, where she’s coming from,” said Orlando Ayala, a 24-year-old senior.
Sophomore Carlos Badilla, 20, of the Bronx, wanted to know why the center was named after Shakur.
“If it had nothing to do with killing the cop, it’s alright,” he said. “You have to think why she did it, cause cops are known to mess with some people, you know. If she had a reason to do it then I have no problem with it.”
I beleive that it should be required for high school or college students to take a credit in criminal law prior to graduation. This course should include an extensive study of the purpose and benefits of law enforcement with a required 24 total hours of 'ride-along' time with law enforcement officers. We might find a difference in the reception our police officers receive. The problem is they are indoctrinated to hate law enforcement constantly in college and high school by school or peers. There is rarely ever a positive side shown. News media only provides information on dirty cops and questionable actions by a few. Where is the respect once given to the position of police officer? It's probably where the same is that used to exist for the office of President. When I was college age, I was working as a cop in the poorest section of my city surrounded drugs, gangs, and violence. I may have been a dumbass then, but it was not for such extreme reasons as those interviewed in the featured article.
