Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Wednesday, March 6. 2024Tuesday News and Short UpdateOne thing I have is 6 weeks off. No work. But I have learned a few things. I'd like to thank one commenter who shared a book lead for me to order it I have not read it yet. I have, over the past few days, read a few articles about my specific issue. It is, indeed, a strange one. 15 months, not 18 (which my brain keeps telling me) is the average period left for non-methylated versions of Glio Blastoma. Naturally that's an average. I have heard 18 and longer for a few people. Oddly it is not frightening at all, nor is it saddening. I don't know why. I did feel bad playing with my little dog today, as she wakes up for a bit a small wrestle with me each morning. I did feel a bit sad because I've lost two previous dogs, and I'm afraid I'll pass before my current one. That said, I do look forward to seeing them all again. I read the news this AM. Quite a bit about politics and the Fed. Nikki Haley is seeing a relatively "larger" level of voting, but she is not winning at all, really (except DC). One article points out that her voting is in states which allow Democrats to vote on non-Democratic votes. However, she will likely end her ballots after Super Tuesday. A few Democrats, noting Biden's ultimately declining opportunities are hoping for alternatives to Trump, at which point Biden may beat Nikki. Or at least they feel Nikki is not as "bad" as Trump. While I favor none of the current political choices, I'd definitely say she'd be a mild improvement over Biden, but still hardly supportable, though she was when she worked under Trump. I felt bad for her when she jumped ship after 2020. The Fed has a massive problem growing. Really at least two at this point. First, wages are still growing faster than inflation. Which does not mean inflation will fall. In fact, the bigger issue is the massive Jan 2024 growth (most in about 2 years) that nobody who is a "professional" was predicting (I had, mainly because it was overdue). The Fed is planning to reduce rates. That's a bad idea as inflation becomes a bit more troublesome. They should have had at least one more increase several months ago - that may have helped reduce inflation further without too much trouble. Sadly, they are pushing for lower rates for political Biden/Democrat support. A terrible idea. I had feared a potential decline in inflation if they had pushed too far and too fast. But they did less and slower. Not a bad idea, but they did not go far enough. Anyone with a basic understanding would know this already. Interestingly, as the chemo and radiation has kicked in, I'm sleeping well still (lucky) and my interests have increased. Some things (like economics) had dropped off but for some reason I've been reading more lately and I do not know why. LOL but that's a good. I've done a ton of Roman History reading - it is rather reminding of how truly awful Democats are if you mix and match behaviors of misleading leaders and activists in the past with those in the current era. I've long felt it would come to play, and it has, though in a significantly different way than I'd originally expected. Biden, in particular, has moved far beyond the earlier eras in Rome I was comparing to (I thought Sulla vs Marius was likely - I have long since been proven Biden is moving several hundred years PAST that era with more authoritarian attempts and growth of government overspending). He is, in fact, rather frightening to me. Trackbacks

I compare Biden to the horse that Caligula wanted to put in the Roman senate. I’m not sure the comparison is positive.
Your positive state of mind is inspiring! Godspeed! That's not a bad comparison...and I agree. Thank you (and all the others).
Been reading here for years. Just want to wish you the best. New treatments for cancer come out all the time and one day we will have the key to it.
Thank you, and I agree.
I shared this on several other places I post. The linkage is from a commenter here on Maggie's Farm from an earlier post of mine: A brief note. I have ordered a book which was shared with me by a commenter on a post I had made elsewhere. It is a difficult book, but one which - if you have severe versions of cancer and versions such as mine in particular, helps to look into the future mindset and prepare yourself quickly and openly to a better life. Another friend lost his wife recently with the same issue I have, and they lived it extensively and as pleasantly as possible - which I will also do as much as I can. He is in NY and will be calling me shortly and sharing a non-profit he formed for people who have what I have. I honor people like him who look out in as many ways as possible. I do not believe that this will be as short as it has been, or is likely to be for me. I know people who put themselves out there and offer opportunities to learn more will help others over time. I have, through my father (a former plastic surgeon familiar with these illnesses in the 70s through the 90s), learned how many different forms have improved dramatically over the last 50+ years. I know it will continue. Meanwhile, it is always good to remain close to where your head needs to be, so that you can provide yourself openly to others along the way as often as possible. https://www.amazon.com/Ive-Seen-End-You-Neurosurgeons/dp/052565321X On another note, Doritos says we don't to lose billions in sales because of this perv.

I know they are, and I agree with you!
One of the BEST Twilight Zone episodes ever. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hunt_%28The_Twilight_Zone%29 I'd just like to second everyone's thoughts.
Think I can safely say we're all pulling for you. And I sure hope Rebecca is right. Regards, Hank_M Something to review.
https://blog.mygotodoc.com/p/can-2-cheap-meds-1-vitamin-and-baking I do not disagree with any of this - conceptually. However, it's terribly misguided.
Much of this has been, actually, tested and looked at. Nobody has come out and said it is wrong or impossible. However there is no singular cancer of any kind. Each is very different. So using it broadly as this author did sounds great and has some potentials in smaller numbers of cases. But it's outright incorrect to call all cancers the same and equally treatable. If that were true, we'd have it solved pretty much the way Obama had suggested when he spoke to Congress long ago. Let me put it this way - and I've discussed this with my own doctors already. My Cancer is very different (non-methylated, which the author doesn't even mention) from methylated versions. And within that, there are about 5 different kinds of Glio Blastoma...each is different from how the others "work" or are infused. Compare that to my sister-in-law who has pancreatic cancer - and has very different versions from me. As well as largely different from herself 10 years ago with her breast cancer. Compare that to my friend's family who lost a son to leukemia in the early 1990s and now there are some better treatments. Or their 60 year old son today who just got very far along with lymphoma, which was almost impossible in 1970s. Treating any of these the same way would have very, very different results. Which isn't to say there aren't treatments - just that they are very rarely what anyone thinks treatments could be or how those treatments can be utilized. |
