Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Friday, September 17. 2021Constitution DayKlingenstein, via MC's Calls For More Fighting Spirit From Conservatives:
I'll agree with that, but as a huge multicultural nation I am not always sure as if Americans feel that they have a lot in common. Even in 1776, the population was deeply divided. The magic glue that can and should bind all Americans together is the US Constitution. It applies to everybody. It happens to be Constitution Day today. Trackbacks

Angelo Codevilla with the long range view on the War on Terror has some views on why this malaise is so pervasive.
https://amgreatness.com/2021/09/16/epitaph-for-the-war-on-terror/ I've been a right leaning blogger for over 20 years, since Nuke The Moon meant something. I've covered all the issues a zillion times. Preaching to the choir; I think that anyone who leans right, is a true patriot, sees the insanity that we've become, has read all of us and become stronger and clearer in their beliefs. We've all got our pocket Constitutions, we're all on the Imprimus mailing list. We've all respectfully rebutted the crazy ideas with facts, history, logic. But I don't think we've won over a single hate-filled Lefty, and those folks are far more hate filled and more Left than they were back then. I'm not even sure that we share the same planet with the ones under 40.
We figured out a long time back that we don't have leadership; the GOP is a long con. We got behind the Tea Party and were played for naive suckers. We got Trump elected, NYC Democrat that he is/was, and as much as we love him he still didn't do 10% of the job that needed doing, simply because most of his appointed minions were playing both sides, and the commie news was rabidly against him even before he took the oath. And now? How far from the Fourth Box are we, having lost the soapbox, having had the ballot box stolen several times, seeing how the jury box is so corrupt that our grievances don't even merit standing, and seeing the media and our government encouraging the 4th box to be opened and used against us (in small measure, so far), our voices and ideas to be censored, our rights to be trampled and ignored, and all the rest? It is the dark night of the storm, but it's still only early evening and we're already flooded. The long dark is yet to come, and the dawn far beyond that. So thanks for linking to a slightly inspirational essay, but. Do you really think Klingenstein is relevant? A big NYC philanthropist who writes for a Con group that's out of touch and two decades behind? We know what is right and what is wrong, and we know what needs to be done. Sitting around the fire in a posh library, over aged brandy and fine cigars, debating the minutia and fondly recalling days many decades in the past is not going to get the job done, ever. We have a split electorate which allows our politicians to preach to the choir to attract the marginal votes needed to win, but alternating electoral victories guarantees long-term decline when only our side adheres to the Constitution. We need to change the electoral balance by allying with the Black Church in support of the underclass. Vouchers, focus on Guard/Reserves, trade schools and community college, STEM only post-secondary, term limited government education etc. will defund the anti-American left and address the root cause of underclass dysfunction, the destruction of the family.
We need to force our politicians to address the need to change the electoral balance. My choice to start this discussion is Larry Elder for President! The magic glue? Hey, remember President Trump's 1776 Project? It was a beautiful little piece on that magic glue, and it said everything important about what America is supposed to be. It was destroyed in the media before it was even published. Foolish! Arcane! Raycis! Sexist!! Ignores 40 years of deconstructive Marxist destructive academic blathering!! How dare you!!! Total lies!! (but the 1619 Project, that we believe in more than anything).
The problem is that divide and conquer works and the Democrats have embraced communism and are dividing us. We are in a death spiral and don't even realize it yet and by the time we do it will be too late. It's been a good run but I think we got 5-10 years max.
Martin Luther King, Jr., gave a speech on the steps of the state capitol in Montgomery, AL, on March 25, 1965 called, "Our God Is Marching On."https://kinginstitute.stanford.edu/our-god-marching
In explaining the past that lead to a segregated society, Dr. King predicted the future. Everyone should read this speech. Then, apply it to today's political events. We don't have a common culture of food, dress, art, ethnicity, religion, or even language. We never have and perhaps we never will. We share a culture of ideas. Our founding documents are what bind us together and what defines American Exceptionalism. That is what we need to teach to every new generation. That's our culture and our heritage.
Since we clearly failed to teach the last 2 generations those ideals, how should we proceed?
Get education out of the hands of government and government unions. Education dollars should follow the student/parent and not the government education establishment. George Carlin was right about trusting government or the media.
One, small, positive note is that more families are turning to home schooling. A good number, albeit far too few, of young people are turned off and disgusted by the far left.
There's always room for hope. I know quite a few traditional Catholic families with 7-10 kids on average (yes, they still exist), who home school. Now, if each of those 7-10 kids has 7-10 kids, etc., The Left is not having children, because it's "irresponsible," unless it's the "correct" kind of children. and then only 1 or 2 at the most. Conservatives are having kids. Liberals are not. Do the math.
SO we. need to learn culture? I thought we just lived culture.
Its surprising to me that people still think some old document is relevant. Was it relevant when the SCOTUS discoved abortion and "gay" marriage? Do you think antifa cares about the constitution? BLM? The constitution is a red herrring to keep whtie people from organizing There are a lot of teaching positions available, and most states have some kind of alternative certification so that, if you already have a degree, you don't need to go get an education degree.
Of course, we also need to get on school boards as well as take over the university colleges of education and the textbook publishing houses, so there are plenty of things to do. Just pick one and get to work. In any case, public education is the frontline in the fight for the future, not most other things conservatives typically choose for careers. It's time to start the long counter-march through the institutions. Americans agree on the rules, not other stuff, is the way it goes, or used to. Nicely expressed by Tom Hanks in Bridge of Spies, on why he wouldn't rat out his Russian spy client to the FBI. Hanks seems not to have learned anything from the script though.
Sorry about the double post. It looks like Maggie posted the first one, while telling me that it needed to be revised to eliminate the space in my name.
The Constitution is nothing if the people no longer share the Judeo Christian values that motivate and obligate that document. We are seeing that now.
The Left has worked on many fronts. But most of their efforts directly or indirectly attacked and weakened committment to those values. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.
- John Adams Sorry, replied to Drew458 but meant to post in general:
