We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Make me a sammich

What's your favorite cold summer sandwich? (I say cold to eliminate things like burgers, hot dogs, grilled cheese, and meatball grinders.)


I'll include roll-ups as sandwiches, just to be kind to roll-up-eaters. 


My go-to summer sandwich is a Turkey Club on white toast with extra mayo, and chips on the side. At this point in life, I'll take a "Junior Club," which is just one layer of the stuff.


What are your favorites?

Ditto, with a dash of balsamic. Pumpernickel works too.

On the commercial side: Hard to get good sub's in Texas, but Jersey Mike's makes a 'not bad' Classic Italian if you get it on Parmesan bread with the 'juice' and every damn thing in the add-on's tray.

A tough choice between a nice oniony tuna salad and Subway's spicy Italian sub. Of course, I enjoy either one regardless of the season so I don't know that you could call it a "summertime" sandwich. Here in Georgia, there's not a lot of wintertime.

Chicken breast (grilled or shnitzel) with spicy corned beef, hummus, and salted lemon paste (look in the middle eastern section).

Chopped.liver with lettuce, celery, and other crisp veggies. The bread spread wirh horseradish mayo and a drizzle of creamy garlic salad dressing on the veggies.

A hefty wrap of turkey, ham, and melted jack cheese, with a sprinkle of lettuce and tomato and a dab of wasabi mayo. And a big dill pickle on the side.

The Faculty Club at Ohio State makes an excellent traditional club sandwich. Once upon a time, they made an excellent traditional Reuben.

These sandwiches are surprising hard to find around Columbus. A lot of traditional recipes never made it through the mountains, such as they are.

SUMMER sandwich:
plain white bread very lightly toasted and lightly buttered
smear with peanut butter
top with peaches

Sourdough, ham, Muenster, horseradish, and sweet pickle relish. Best to heat the ham and cheese, though. Toasting the bread is also good.
