We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
My parents owned a house in Plymouth, Vermont many years ago just a couple of miles down the road from the Coolidge homestead. We used to drive by it frequently and I remember one time when I was a boy we stopped in to buy cheese from the Coolidge cheese works. I stopped in to the homestead a couple of years back with my sister and took the full tour. Well worth a visit if you are in the neighborhood. Just seeing the house and farm he grew up in and some of the old farm equipment they used back in that day is a treat. They still make and sell very good cheeses too.
Mark Steyn also has a very good interview with Amity Shlaes about her book on Coolidge. It's on his website for anyone interested.
