We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The problem is that people are jumping to conclusions before the data is complete. We don't know yet the full impact of Covid. We don't know yet the Norway won't have a similar increase of the disease like Sweden did. We may not know the answers to these questions for a few years, maybe longer.
It is foolish, for example, for New Zealand to be taking victory laps for beating Covid. I wish them well, I really do but they may have only set the country up for a massive outbreak later vs a slower outbreak now. And of course a small population on an Island is not a good model for most of the rest of the world. The very fact that they think they were wiser than everyone else shows their ignorance of the facts around Covid.
The problem is that this is the first real biological weapon ever released and even the people who built it were overwhelmed by it's effectiveness. This could be a world changing virus, we don't know yet but the signs don't look good.
They (the CCP) had not finished it. The virus escaped the lab by accident. A more powerful virus will surely be engineered and released on an unsuspecting world after completed and a vaccine quietly developed for the Chinese population.
Thanks for this Bulldog. My wife is currently going through post-viral recovery with fatigue and back pain. I'm at about 85% now - still getting taste & smell back.
Last year over 650,000 Americans died of heart disease, and another 600,000 died of cancer. You can see the past few years of Top 10 causes of death here:
...where they also estimate over 300,000 Americans will die of COVID 19 by the end of the year. But bear in mind: 2020 will probably also show rises in the Top 2 causes because of COVID and its priority over other health issues, ofttimes depriving people of access to prompt medical attention for their conditions. But in any case: COVID is the #3 cause of death in 2020 America. There are a few irresponsible publications out there taking last week's death spike and projecting COVID as 'now the #1 cause of death in the US' but that's just clickbait bunk.
I was speaking with a friend today, a heart specialist. He works in a new (< 3 years old) hospital in our medium-sized city. A very good regional facility - but he already has had his equipment update requirements shunted aside, as have other departments there. All of the money-to-be-spent is going into COVID-19, a good bit of it just in public health management.
It's a public health crisis, and we all know people who have been surprisingly struck down - as we do with seemingly unlikely heart attack and stroke victims, sometimes. But we have to be mindful to demand that our policy officials and medical management teams are correctly tallying statistics and are preserving the integrity of prioritization and managing actual risks - not the imagined or well-publicized ones that mayors seem to favor.
Very little of what we see or hear is legitimate. I have friends at Urgent Care Centers telling me testing is their cash cow right now.
2 friends working at ICUs do admit they are filled - but not necessarily in the fashion or manner we're being told. Covid IS a problem. Just not the 'only' one...and sometimes real statistics are misrepresented, particularly if it goes against the agenda.
Hope you and the wife are better soon. Really took me about 6 weeks after the last symptoms to feel 100%. Take it easy and get lots of rest. That was the #1 thing that helped me.
When all is said and done we may never know the real covid numbers. Games have been played to rake in free cash. But the other damage - economic, mental, physical - will be apparent and take time to improve.
I personally know well over 60 people who have had covid, including myself and several family members. None were hospitalized, none died. I have friends who have elderly or diabetic relatives who WERE hospitalized. None have died.
As of today, I am not aware of a single person in my family or friends' circles who have it. Which I find odd since it's 'worse' than it was when I had it...more widespread. Not saying it isn't or that my experience explains anything. But in April it was not was about 1/2 as common in my area as it is now...and yet...I have not seen or heard anyone having it this time. Example of anecdotal experience not matching reality, probably. Something just doesn't feel right about all this.
This was politicized early on - and unjustly so. This politicization, in my estimation, was to help promote "The Great Reset" and Universal Basic Income.
Conspiratorial in nature? No. Not at all. These have been open 'secrets' for a very long time. The promoters just needed the right crisis.
Lest we forget--it was a Swedish Research Institution that gave us "gay by genetics" !! The American Psychlogical group are now quietly trying to pull back from that one!
It was the Swedes who were neutral in WWII. Came away unscathed.
Wait a minute! Are you actually saying you don't believe that gay people are born gay? As for the Psychologist begging to back off that theory they are doing that out of fear of a backlash from gays who don't like the fact that they are born gay.
If you do not think gay men are born gay then you do not know any gays. If you do not think that psychiatrists and psychologists were 'cowed' into denying this theory then you don't know anyone in that profession.
