We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

I have five sons. They have all been sent this multiple times.

I've seen it at least once, and will watch it again sometime. My reply regarding talking to the police is sometimes yes, sometimes no. I got stopped for speeding on I-10 several years ago. The trooper asked me where I was going. I told him the state I was going to. He asked me if I were moving. No, I was going to my brother-in-law's memorial service. He let me go with a warning.
Bu there are times when I could consider it best that I say nothing. Is the cop out to get me? From my experience, traffic cops aren't out to get you.
Could the 1929 crash and the inevitable great depression that followed have been prevented or once begun could it have been turned around? In my opinion, yes! But the fix/cure would have been radical and no politicians would have dared attempt it and no politician would have supported it.
Today, right now, the world is set up for another great reset, economic collapse and likely years to decades of an economic depression. Many of the indicators/conditions have been present for years but the Covid and the shutdowns have accelerated the situation and it looks to me like the house of cards will collapse soon. Usually in these economic and social disasters their is a trigger event that years latter is 'blamed' for the disaster but in fact it could be anything that triggers it. I think the trigger will be the election, or more correctly the election result and the acts and choices made after the election. We are entering a perfect storm and there will be no way to stop it. What is worse is that whomever wins the election will undoubtedly take drastic actions to 'fix' it but it will all only make it worse. (That is exactly what Roosevelt did for 11 years or so. that is what politicians do.) This will be worse, for many reasons that most people can easily guess. This 'great depression' will destroy nations and cause death and mayhem worse than anything else in world history. And we are on the precipice and there is no going back.
You're probably right. But America's economic collapse is not the result of capitalism. It's the result of a huge budget deficit, the loss of our manufacturing base, and increasingly complex employment laws which make it difficult to fire anyone. Our economy is now based on e-mails and pizza delivery.
The only way for the United States to recover is to reduce the tax burden, simplify employment law, and end payroll-taxes. But Washington won't do that. Instead, they'll offer a "New Deal" which guarantees universal income; and employment for everyone. That will extend the depression indefinitely.
The only way to contain the deficits was to grow the pie with robust growth. This is what the Dems will torpedo, while simultaneously forcing the rest of America to pick up the tab for the corrupt blue states and cities.
It is literally impossible to to contain or reverse the deficits. It is also impossible to ever pay them off. There is no plan to pay them off and they will never be paid off. Sooner or later higher interest rates will cause the debt payment to blow up and when that happens it will be a disaster. Only a politician or a used car salesman could possibly try to convince you otherwise with a straight face. It is a time bomb and it's time is coming soon.
