Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Book du Jour: The Road to Serfdom


Hayek's socio-political classic The Road to Serfdom was one of the books that swayed me from youthful idealism to more mature realism. Human nature, really.


Written in 1944, still relevant.

It's hard to get most people to take an interest in this essential work. Sad, but not surprising.

However, for those with limited time / attention span, and to give to others as an easier introduction to something most people would rather not think about, I present The Illustrated Road to Serfdom. Originally published in Look Magazine, Feb. 1945:

If you enjoy history read the series "The Story of Civilization" by Will and Ariel Durant.
