Americans haven't become indifferent to evil. Rather, they have been taught that misconduct is a form of rebellion which will help to destroy an oppressive culture. Girls are supposed to go wild. Young men are supposed to drive fast. In all cases, "Sin" is associated with heroic individualism, and a rejection of bourgeois values. Woke people aren't afraid to commit crimes, because that's the path to emancipation. Tattoos are a good example; they make a man unemployable, so it could be said that he is doing evil. But he would say that society is evil for not submitting to his own definition of himself. In other words, "evil" is now both the Machiavellian act of destroying everything because the the world is unjust. And also the guilty pleasure of defying the standards of a polite society.
Evil as an act of willful destruction, is very close to fraud as a positive form of dishonesty. Those young woke people claim to be doing evil in the name of good, and then they lie about it in the name of in-group solidarity. The solution is to change sin and fraud back into negative values, by teaching kids the importance of social decorum; the just nature of a free economy; and the personal unhappiness which accompanies a dishonest life. Sin is wrongdoing. Fraud is cheating. To be honest, the executives of Amazon, Walmart, Apple, Uber, and Facebook could also use some instruction in those subjects.
