Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Most Enjoyable Jobs for Older Workers A very weird list written by someone who's heard of older workers, but never met one, and who doesn't know that you don't put a period after each item in a bulleted list. Software Engineers?
I was one before I became a decrepit old fart. And 'more' was never enough. The industry already figured this out. H1B. They are like slaves. Pay them half of what you have to pay a citizen, work them 80 hours a week and they don't dare leave your company because they will lose their H1B status and they and their extended family will have to go back to India.
Most enjoyable jobs for older workers
The list was obviously complied without much empirical evidence (also called looking around). Here's the popular ones I see: - consumer labeling critic: scrutinizes grocery-store labels for accuracy, completeness, and legibility, 4-6 hours per day - traffic density regulator: moderates flow of vehicle traffic by driving a vehicle at reduced speeds in a variety of traffic densities - access moderator: controls the flow of pedestrian traffic on sidewalks and through doorways by careful personal positioning and assuming a befuddled expression - queue enhancer: prolongs the social aspect of customer-provider interactions. Examples include asking "Does it come with pickles?" when ordering a hamburger, or paying with exact change in a supermarket express line. - biomedical raconteur: "Let me tell you about my surgery/doctor/chiropractor/therapist/drug regimen." (for the 5th time). - social media provocateur: posts inflammatory junk on the Neighborhood Nextdoor site in his own neighborhood. Oh, and stay off my lawn. Good list, Mr. Anderson.
Clergy? Doesn't that come with a requirement for some knowledge of Scripture? I am already a health care worker. I work to keep several doctors and support staff in business. A job that captures your imagination? Isn't that what all of us have always wanted? Why now in retirement start seeking it? Besides, my guitar playing never got me anywhere the sex and drugs I always heard about. :-) Due to orbital differences (Earth, Mars) there are only certain windows of opportunity that will enable a spacecraft to reach Mars, given today's technology.
Being an older guy, I "road test" lounge chairs and hammocks.
Mars? It's a moving target! Dogs' eyes: I gave up on The ATLANTIC some years back. Turkey Now Has Swarming Suicide Drones It Could Export
Oh boy! If these are deployed, every infantry squad will now counter-deploy some young guy who grew up an xbox wizard at knocking out the bad guys with his game laser! Or deploy an energy/radio beam weapons to disrupt all the annoying little bots' controls or weapons capabilities. All this really means is there will be even more demand for extended-life-in-the-field electrical batteries to power defense capabilities. Go long on battery companies! Thanks Roger for keeping the flags flying at Maggie's this week. I have enjoyed your posts.
Wayyyyy off topic.
Look at a map of Idaho and you can clearly see Joe Biden sniffing it. Tech support for an ISP. Of course, let's pretend that older people don't know anything about technology.

QUOTE: Carlson concluded, “The bottom line is, it seems pretty clear they fired this woman because of who her step son was, and just to restate the obvious, that shouldn’t happen in this country because it’s wrong and people should say it’s wrong, or it will continue to keep happening.” https://www.dailywire.com/news/tucker-carlson-stepmother-of-police-officer-charged-in-rayshard-brooks-shooting-fired-from-her-job-company-releases-statement Vera Lynn has died, perhaps the last popular singer left from WWII.

Say what you will about Barack Obama, but in my heart of hearts, Jimmy Carter will always be Worst President Ever. 536 was ‘the worst year "A mysterious fog plunged Europe, the Middle East, and parts of Asia into darkness, day and night—for 18 months."...Huh, then it really was the dark age.
