Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Tuesday, June 16. 2020Tuesday Is Just Monday's Ugly Sister
Well, it's Tuesday. There's no "fresh week" feeling to Tuesday. You don't unwrap a Tuesday. The package is already broken open, and inexpertly taped back up, like most of the tools at Harbor Freight. In geologic terms, it's really not any closer to Friday than Monday was, so you can't even lie to yourself about being one day closer to the weekend with any gusto. Tuesday just is. Let's get on with it. Hacker Dosed With LSD While Restoring Historical Synth

Everyone already refuses to sit in the stands at their kids' Little League games. They're all on the field having fistfights with the umpires and the other parents. Have a milquetoast, non-denominational, vibe-less, nondescript, average Tuesday everyone. It's the best you can hope for.

healthy, plant-based diets
Hey! I'm a second-order vegetarian; I eat things that eat vegetables. Sometimes accompanied by actual vegetables (what's liver without onions?) Think of it as processed food. We shouldn't sit in the stands any more or have a Zoom call with a celebrity. Talk about useless luxury activities. Sam Goldwyn said it best "The public stayed away in droves." I suspect lockdowns and social distancing tactical dispersion are the first symptoms of the 21st Century's Death of Big. Sam also said: "If people don't want to go to the movies there ain't nothing we can do to stop them".
Works for the NFL, too - in my humble opinion. This is the problem with all studies and all reports/statements by all organizations; that is agendized people/groups actively seek positions where they can push their agenda and make it believable/authoritative. You can't believe anything from any group, organization, government source, etc.
I just finished reading “Memoirs or Chronicle of the Fourth Crusade and the Conquest of Constantinople” by Geoffrey de Villehardouin. You aren’t a relative are you, the French nobility being all related by blood or marriage.
It's sad that ApJ is now publishing science fiction. And pretty dull science fiction at that.
Alien civilizations? That's racist! You must mean undocumented civilizations.

In solidarity with you, both have opened Patreon sites where millions can contribute $5 each to guarantee no Zoom calls. "What a Country!" QUOTE: the EU Commission just released its “Farm to Fork” strategy, which is the agricultural portion of the European Green Deal. It announces a series of unrealistic goals: In the next decade, farmers like me are supposed to slash our use of crop-protection products by half, cut our application of fertilizer by 20 percent, and transform a quarter of total farmland into organic production. None of this, of course, is supposed to disrupt anybody’s dinner. https://www.zerohedge.com/political/eu-farmers-fear-european-green-new-deal One wonders when similar measures will be proposed here? My car mechanic took LSD once. He said he had an auto body experience.
Was he moving, or the auto, or both? Were either hurt? ( yes, I know it's a pun ) Re: 36 alien civilizations in our galaxy
Let me know when immigration opens, I'm interested in being a humanity expat. re The biggest myth of modern nutrition: healthy plant-based diets
A long read but very interesting. Thanks for posting. Has anyone touting these new "healthier" "plant-based" foods looked at how they are produced, let alone the source of some of the "proteins" (hint - think China)? I espouse the natural way of producing "plant-based" foods: animals eat the grass and grains: i eat the animals. Much simpler, tastier, and healthier.
With few exceptions, such as occur in studies of populations subjected to wildly restrictive diets on the level of seamen on long voyages without vitamin C, nutritional research publications are the rankest superstition.
