We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
That’s an interesting article. But it contains a factual error. The author claims that we are not getting a good return on our “investment in education”. We aren’t investing one penny in education. An investment implies a return. We don’t educate children so that we will reap some sort of personal gain. We educate them so that they will be happy, regardless of what happens to us. They are not an investment. But beyond that, our educational system is so bad that if it were an investment, the loan officer would call the note. It’s a disaster, the R.O.I. is -30% compounded annually. There has been a long-term concerted effort to discredit history, so that people will wrongly believe that our past wasn’t heroic. But our past was great! All kinds of fantastic things happened. Black people are jealous because they while we were zooming around on steam engines, they were arguing over a dead zebra. You know what they say: Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. So we can take back history, but only over the objections of black people. They will continue to attack our universities with their dying breath.
