We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
This is much more ancient, but there's an interesting theory that the English Channel was formed when water, dammed by ice, broke through and cut a massive channel in the chalk, about 450 thousand years ago.
Additional note - A VALLEY was created, not the water filled channel we see today. The land became submerged as sea levels rose, in the timeframe of the graphic shown.
[PS Greetings from the 'future', it is just past noon on 26 April in Sydney Australia, although this comment will show as being made about 10pm April 25]
Gidday! Loved Sydney, visited Australia about 8 years ago for just 12 days. Had a great time, I need to go back for another visit.

A show with the same premise played the other night on Smithsonian Channel in the U.S. It also detailed the formation of the Scablands in the NW U.S. and a similarly formed canyon in Iceland. Apparently these large ice dam floods were somewhat common in past ages...
A search for Glacial Lake Missoula will yield a wealth of information--videos, lectures, publications--from general interest to academic tomes on this geologic event. Even a casual look will open your eyes to the power of moving water.
My father, 84, is a geologist and civil engineer and remembers that at Yale in the 50’s discussions of a flood causing the CSL were routinely laughed at and mocked. The science you see was settled.
It is interesting too that both statistically and based on what we know about the climate cycles that another ice age is more likely than the alternative pushed by the crazy left wing socialists.
