We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I think the laws over the past 60-70 years have tilted the playing field such that it is economically advantageous for a women to divorce. Level the playing field: No more child support, both parents must share custody and both must support the children. No alimony.
America has the highest rate of children living in single parent households for two reasons: First of all, almost every black woman lives alone with her kids, who are usually born of different fathers. And she couldn't marry any of them anyway, because they're all in prison. The second reason is that white women have been taught by black women to believe that marriage is a mistake. An evil man will make you stay at home, and cook lasagna! Who wants that horrible experience? Also, it's a moral crime for a white girl to openly say that she wants to find a handsome guy, get married, and have some kids. If a woman rejects feminist dogma, other women will attack her. So you will never see a T.V. show about young couples getting married, and starting a family. You will see shows about homosexuals and lesbians adopting children. But homosexuals refuse to adopt black kids, so you won't see that.
Paternalism (which I assume is the word you meant) has been closely associated with women voters for as long as we've had them. The Suffragettes and the Prohibitionists were mostly the same people; the only reason the 18th Amendment preceded the 19th was that some large states, including New York, gave women the vote before the feds said they had to.
No hate intended -- but I suspect this linkage is dictated by biochemistry. And that if we want to have the level of freedom we had before 1920, we may need to seriously consider taking the vote away again. Is fairness more important than freedom?
Unmarried families are THE biggest problem in this country. In the long run it's more dangerous than fundalmentalist Islam or communism. I'd go so far as to say it's the root of almost every internal problem that we are dealing with, including having socialists as serious contenders for president.
Feminism is part of the liberal/leftist canon. And, like all liberal/leftist ideology, it's "the thought that counts". Not results. Not reality. Not truth. If an absurd concept is accepted by the left, it can no longer be debated. It won't matter if it produces 3 to 4 generations of failed results, the perfect version is just a few trillions in taxpayer largesse away from being attained. Occasionally, you get a liberal or a feminist to assess the results of liberal or feminist policy, but it quickly disappears from the narrative and the person doing it is banished to the hinterlands by their fellow travelers. But, as so many realists have pointed out, if you want more of something, subsidize it.

Feminism is about women achieving their goals: Getting more from men in return for less.
