The Roger Stone travesty of justice

7-9 years in jail for what government officials do every day? More years that some murderers?

Scott Adams is pissed, and so am I. Go to 11:55 on today's podcast.

The point is not that Stone is the most admirable guy. The point is that you or I could be in the same boat if targeted by the feds.

I would think that every jury in Washington, D.C. would be stacked, given the sort of behavior I've seen demonstrated there over the past several years.

simple rule: one of the birds of feather: no crime possible (even murder, see Seth)
political enemy: everything is a crime, and we will prosecute if we can make something stick (anything that sticks is OK)

Yes the word is out that the jury foreman was an attorney, a Democratic candidate for office, and an avid anti-Trump "muh-Russia" follower who was posting about Stone's arrest before the trial, and on the Russia conspiracy on social media while serving on the jury. It will be interesting seeing this one unfold on its way to a mistrial if this is all true. The judge, an Obama appointee and fan-girl (apparently) oversaw the jury placement, and she also served on the Mueller cases against Manafort and Gates.

All this jury foreman had to do was shut up and not do anything crazy - but apparently 7 or 8 of her house cats got together and convinced her privately to go public with her thrilling story. Of course, this just completes the picture of a nasty political hit being engineered against a rival political operator, starting with the arrest at his house: Showing up in force for a SWAT-raid-at-dawn in full mufti against a senior citizen with a deaf wife and an old dog, all while tipping off CNN to be there with their cameras rolling, was all the hint you should need. Nobody particularly likes Roger Stone, but this was a disgraceful use of lethal force, designed purely to terrorize - a hobby specialty of Andrew Weissman.

The intent was to intimidate and punish Trump and Republican supporters. Simple as that. It is called "lawfare" and the DOJ is corrupt. I believe the AG to be a good and am honest person and not a right wing ideologue. But I am disappointed that he has not done more to clean up the DOJ. I honestly cannot decide which is more corrupt the FBI or the DOJ. I am very worried for our republic.

Which misunderstands the jury system. Jurors are drawn from a pool. Potential jurors are interviewed with questions submitted by both the prosecution and defense. Either side can have a juror removed for cause, or just 'cause. Only if the juror gave misleading or incomplete answers would there be a valid reason for a new trial. The juror at issue did disclose her profession and her political activities.

Welcome back. No, nothing misunderstood. The juror did not disclose her extreme and fervid bias against the administration and in particular all things related to Trump. I'm sure all this will come out in the wash. You do agree that a person on trial is entitled to a fair trial, including impartial jurors, regardless of whether they are a saint or a sinner? I'm sure that if a juror were to refer to your client and client's employer as Nazis you might think twice about letting them serve on a jury - unless you had it in for your client.

If she lied or misled the court, then it may constitute juror misconduct, but the defense had ample opportunity to ask questions and investigate each juror.

Imagine yourself long before the corrupt FBI or DOJ gave any indication that they were after you simply because you were a friend of a politician. You talk for a living and give your opinion vociferously, all of this is your shtick. And you call a friend, someone you know well enough to joke with who has publicly disagreed with you. And you laughingly tell him if he doesn't take it back you will kill his cat! Come on, don't you get it??? BUT the DOJ lawyers decide to go after you in a phony politically motivated investigation and they do this AFTER they have irrefutable evidence that the investigation is based on phony politically motivated lies. And they take your statement to your friend out of context and claim that you were "intimidating a witness. Never mind he wasn't a witness when you said it or that it was a joke or that he was supposedly a witness in an investigation that they KNEW was phony. BUT how do they convict you on such incredibly stupid evidence... AHHH! By seating a corrupt jury stacked with Trump haters. But how do you get away with such an obvious ploy??? No worries, the MSM is on your side and they will cover it up AND if somehow this all gets out, no worries the corrupt Democrat party that corruptly started the corrupt investigation will all stand up lock hands and try to impeach the ONLY honest man at the DOJ. No worries, Schumer says, we got this...
