We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Trump is going bolder in Obama's direction: The Age of Great-Power Competition - How the Trump Administration Refashioned American Strategy However, Obama was reactive, and tentative about everything. Trump never heard of that word.


Obama saw that Europe and the EU were the past, not the future.

I think you meant Obama saw Europe as the future, not the past.

Huh? Speaking the names of Obama and Trump as going in the same direction? I don't see the latter bowing and scraping to every Muslim ruler. Nor do I see Trump starting wars throughout the Middle East, nor upending the Assad presidency to gain leverage with those trying to destroy Syria's Christians, nor shipping billions to Iran while stealing billions from Libya.

We must be living in different worlds.

Europe will continue to have lots of people trained in math and science, and so will continue to produce new technology. Not as much as America, and China will do less in some areas, more in others. But despite the disastrous path they are heading down, some of them will still have things to sell 10, 20, 30 years from now. After that we shouldn't be guessing.

Martin Armstrong pointed out quite some time back that the EU had a common currency but that it would fail because it did not have a common debt. It is why, I think, that Trump wants the Brits out of the EU. Britian and all of the Anglo countries will do better with bilateral trade rather than the disaster that unelected new world order administrators will erect in the EU. The EU will wind up with a mishmash of federal reserve/state department type administrators running the EU into an authoritarian nightmare.
