We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I am not sure what is meant by the quantity item, but these seem like, as we say, ordinary, cultural bourgeois values/standards/expectations, which are not endorsed by everybody. Fortunately, they are endorsed by enough people to provide for those who can not or do not.
I saw this earlier today. Essentially anything having to do with functionality and productivity is considered the hallmark of "whiteness". I suppose the irony is lost on these people that these claims are really saying that non-whites are incapable of these things. I believe this used to be called the bigotry of low expectations.
Most of the terms could be stated in a more positive way. Perfectionism might be called "thoroughness," or "high expectations." Urgency might be described as "prompt," or "efficient," or "focused." The purveyors of these ideas seem to be intentionally seeking the negative sides.
The secondary message is that it is culturally just as valid to be relaxed, fit in, be cool, not strive. Well, that may be so. We all have choices. But that choice includes people not inventing stuff, providing food, being available to provide medical care, putting up buildings, and the like. You can't have this both ways. The deep message underneath all this is that those things are automatic, and free, and just need to be distributed to everyone.
What a horrible thing to do to minority students.

I think Jonah Goldberg likes to call this 'not preaching what you practice'.
If one was cynical you could say they are discouraging other people from pursing these attributes on purpose, so as to maximize the rewards to those who ignore the instruction.
It's funny that they're essentially discouraging "acting white" while acknowledging that white people rule the world and that non-whites are just helpless victims. Generally speaking, if you want to get what others have got, you do what they did to get it. If you've got the power to change the rules of the game, well, just how much of a helpless victim are you?
