We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I've always been fascinated with the subject of colonizing other planets. In particular, I wonder what the basis of our claim would be if we did, in fact, colonize Mars. Well, first of all, there's physical proximity. We are pretty close to Mars. Then there's the question of what's there when we arrive. As far as I'm concerned, if there is no life, then it's ours; free and clear. But what if there is life? Does that life have any claim?
Well, that depends on several factors. The first is the question of intelligence. Obviously, bacteria wouldn't have a claim; nor would insect life. But let's assume that there is intelligent life on Mars. Would they need to have achieved a certain level of technical competence in order for their claim on the land to be legitimate? I would say that the answer is "Yes." The reason being is that history is full of unrealized potential. It's man's place in the universe to go forward; and realize that potential. And to do so as man; and only as man.
Why? Because of our unique intellectual outlook. I could imagine millions of competing species. For example, there could be giant praying mantises that technically fit the specifications of intelligent life. But only man has the correct combination of will, decency, and knowledge that makes him uniquely fit to rule the universe. It's a not divine right; it's earned.
Most of these academic clowns can barely get off their oversized asses much less off the ground on the way to Mars. I could barely make it through a third of the drivel before I had to flush the "intellectual" discourse. It is just more of the same mass crash of feminist trash talk on the imaginary interstate of life on which they travel. They do not live in reality but subsist on taxpayer funds in an unaccountable department of useless learned narrative. Close the universities now or at least end the student loan ripoff.
Rule of thumb - if the panel topic is "space flight" and there's no one there in a blue jumpsuit or with JPL on their resume, they're not talking about spaceflight, they're talking about talking about spaceflight.
Spaceflight is hard, and it's hard in a way that these people don't understand. Math and physics aren't just a different way of looking at the universe, they're the only way of looking at the universe if you have to get an inertial measurement platform to align properly.

Not a single member of this FREAK SHOW (blue-hair; overweight; half-sheared head; a white-black) could stand the first 15 minutes of serious training for exploration of their own local state parks, let alone outer space!
Worst of the worst in ACADEME! Just a set of total losers who would be grocery check-out ladies or baristas or car wash cashiers, if not for the complete subsidization of the higher education. Most are a waste of skin!
