We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Warren is Back, and 'Better' Than Ever

In light of Elizabeth's massive giveaway to the irresponsible and unaccountable, I thought this piece was particularly good.

As I see it, I get penalized for being a responsible parent, helping pay for my kids' college, and making sure they took on some of the financial responsibility (they have some loans they are paying off), but that they were prepared to enter the workforce and pay it off.


I do the right thing, I get bupkus.  Make your kid irresponsible, unaccountable, and let him/her/it/whatever-is-popular-now study Transgendered Poets of the 18th Century from Madagascar, and you'll have $1 Trillion in debt accumulate, with an entire generation incapable of being able to pay it back or understand what they did wrong.  All you'll hear is "It's NOT FAIR!!!"


Let's not forget the MSM is saying "It's good for the economy!"  No, it's not.  It's good for a few people who are lazy and shiftless.  It would damage the economy severely.


The entire Democratic Party has gone full-on Leftist, and is more dangerous than ever.   Once there was a time worth considering voting for a Democrat.  That was probably not more than 20-30 years ago.  There are no worthwhile people in the Democratic Party.  Not saying I'm fond of the Republicans, either.  At least they show a veneer of accountability.

Anything can be made to sound like a good deal if you add up the benefits and ignore the costs. Then you get the insanity of people with Economics degrees like AOC touting the cost-effectiveness of the Green New Deal when it's obvious she's never heard of the Broken Window fallacy or opportunity costs or even has the common sense to realize that if these things were actually profitable you wouldn't need to force greedy capitalists to seize the chance to make a buck, would you?

@ Mike - keep posting it. It's succinct and it's true.

@ Jerryskids - AOC probably has her degree in International Relations with 12 credits of economics/politics; or a double major of 24-24. The matter is discussed in detail over at Red State. https://www.redstate.com/jenvanlaar/2019/04/02/aoc-really-economics-degree-boston-university/ One is closer to an economics degree than the other, but in neither case is it fully economics. BU deserves many criticisms, but they get at least a partial pass on this one.

As for Elizabeth Warren and the Democratic candidates in general, there is a competition to see which expensive giveaway will get more votes. What haven't we given away yet? Many Democrat voters suspect that we can't have everything, and so are choosing, in their 5th-grade way, whether they think "Medicare For All," "Green New Deal," or "Free College" is the one thing we can afford to the exclusion of others. What these cost is not the issue. Which generates the most votes, whether by direct bribe or by good press, is their only question. They haven't figured out that we can't afford any of them.

Older, more responsible Democrats try to lean on "Infrastructure," but that has become a loser in the polls. To the government-raised younger Democrats, highways, bridges, schools, sewage treatment, ports, airports and the like are automatic. They just appear somehow out of the forest and don't cost more than a few bucks from each of us. Not that we could afford all the infrastructure either, but at least we got something back for our money. Unlike the current proposals, from which we will get bupkis.

Rush talked about student loan amnesty and 2 days later Warren is making that promise. Interesting. Did you know Obama granted loan forgiveness if those owing loan $ would work as SJWs for several years? I think Trump should take a page from that book and offer an "Amnesty" to citizen students that get practical and needed degrees. Engineering, welding, etc. A surtax could be charged to students with stupid degrees to fund it. It could be called a Sustainability tax. It could even be done using a "progressive" interest rate. Appropriating the words Amnesty & Sustainability would be a bonus. As Mike observes, reward what you want more of & dis-incentivize what you want less of. Also true that the value of being "a square" to society (your payoff) was a great place to live.
It was self evident but also relied on critical mass. Once quorum or perception of quorum of gaming the system is achieved and people feel like suckers, you get Louisiana and Chicago.

Please, please, it is not the "Democratic" party. It is anything but. It is the Democrat party. The name has been used as a play on words to make one think that they are the "free" and "democratic" group. They are not.

They are not democratic about anything. They are not liberal and they are not progressive.
