We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Excellent talk, and the previous link about his book is also good. As it is the NYT, you will notice that the words "left-wing," "liberal," or "progressive" do not occur anywhere in the article, nor are they even obliquely referred to. No marxism nor Theory neither, no, not none. I don't cite those as entire causes, but simply note that this would never be the case with anyone on the right. The NYT is trying to tie Christchurch to the European Right, for example, though one could easily make a stronger case for the European Left.
Christakis speaks about networks and cooperation being important drivers. I agree wholeheartedly. I wonder who it is that is destroying the networks and social cooperation of Western Civ at present?
