Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Friday, January 18. 2019Christie at the ConferenceAs I mentioned in an earlier post today, Chris Christie spoke at my conference. He was part of a panel talking about news, and of course everyone wanted to know about 'Russia'. Christie was my governor for 8 years. I never felt he was a good governor, but he was better than his predecessor, Jon Corzine, by a long shot. He did a few good things in his first few years, then got a little full of himself. I never believed he would work on the national stage, and he didn't. However, he fills in on sports talk on WFAN and I listen to him there. He's a good commentator. Lots to say, good insight. He's never afraid to talk. As he spoke to us, he was on a panel with 3 others, and he spoke for 90% of the session. All of it was good. The one takeaway I really liked was his view on Trump. Most of you know I am not a Trump fan, but I'm in absolutely no way a hater of Trump. I just don't agree with some of his policies and I can't stand his attitude or behavior. That said, I've never felt there's anything 'there' on 'Russia'. Guess what? Christie didn't either, and as he said, it's more likely to turn out that the Mueller investigation shows that the Trump campaign was dysfunctional, that portions were a mess, that some people were engaging in questionable behaviors, but nobody knew what anyone else was doing. He said that's how he felt while he worked on it. It was clear to him Trump loves a chaotic atmosphere because it produces disruption. Christie pointed out that at no point, so far, has Trump 'failed' in any meaningful way. Every time people count him out, he comes through with a victory. Christie believes this, in part, is related to Trump's management style. This style, he says, is drawn from the Mike Tyson school of boxing. Don't have a strategy. People with strategies tend to overwhelmingly lean on them even as they fail. As you may or may not know, Mike Tyson made his statement, "Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth." Tyson later explained this saying, "How much can you endure, buddy?" Trump pushes everything and everyone to their limit. Christie said he loves to see how much they can take, because invariably he can outlast them and that's how he wins most of the time, when he wins. Christie pointed out that Trump loses quite a bit, too, but he's also good at turning that around, or portraying it in a way to make people see him as a winner regardless of his failure. That said, his final point is that Trump does face some strong headwinds with the Cohen situation. It's becoming clear he engaged in very questionable behavior. Christie, however, does not feel the Democrats have the will, the capability, or the desire, to impeach Trump. It's his view, if they do, they will create a platform for Trump to ride to victory easily in 2020. He said it's better PR and better theater to talk about it and drive emotion, but actually doing anything will certainly work against them heavily. Trackbacks

I liked Christie at first but he wimped out or sold out and became just another elite against the little guy. But I almost coughed up my morning coffee when I read that he "I can't stand his attitude or behavior". Seriously? Christie actually said that about someone else? Has he ever watched himself on TV? What a pompous ass he is and not typically right in his pronouncements either. If he was on the right track, as is Trump and just as pompous and loud mouthed, THEN I could at least put up with him.
Christie's pomposity (remember, he was my governor) is famous. But even he can be outdone, and Trump outdoes him by a mile - and I'm sure he notices it.
On the other hand, I have noticed that since he's been out of office, Christie's tone has softened dramatically. I believe that while he was governor the power went to his head. I also think he knows, as a media commentator, he needs to court public opinion a bit more carefully. I'd worry less about stuff like that and focus more on the points he makes - much like I did with Kobe Bryant. Both of these speakers are terribly flawed (who is perfect, though? certainly not me) and yet they still provide useful insights. What did they charge this illustrious group for sharing their wisdom?
Oh, and by the way, I said that, not Christie. Christie said something similar, but more diplomatic. He knows Trump and has known him for 16 years or more. I doubt he'd ever say that he can't stand his attitude or behavior.
On the other hand, I don't know Trump, but I know 3 people who worked for him or that Trump asked to work for him. So I'm familiar with his attitude in second-hand fashion. Based on what these 3 people told me, there's nothing impressive outside of a pushy, aggressive personality. Nothing impressive, except he's for AMERICA FIRST!
I've had enough of the so-called "educated elites" who can pontificate and ruminate, but never lead because they haven't a clue! Eighty years of horrible foreign and domestic policies that have resulted in $20 trillion in debt, armed forces strung out around the world to no good AMERICAN end and crap trade deal after crap trade deal, resulting from a succession of the "best and brightest" from the Ivies; most of whom couldn't successfully run a paper route!!! Here's one of the best analogies I've seen on how TRUMP acts: https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2018/12/what_makes_trump_run.html He's been where the rubber meets the road. It ain't nice, it ain't pretty and you can't drink his tea with your pinky finger up in the air, but he gets things done. Results, NOT process; unlike his all too-political predecessors. As Lincoln said of Grant, "I can't spare this man; he fights!" And also like Grant, TRUMP wins! That's right! He puts America first. ALL of the other candidates put women first or African Americans first or homosexuals first or immigrants (legal and illegal) first or Puerto Rico first, etc. I am sick and tired of politicians asking for our votes and telling us we are deplorable, racist, sexist, yada, yada, yada. Put America first, all Americans not just those with a race/gender card to play. And put the constitution first not SJW judges first.
I heard first hand from restaurant employees at Trump's NJ golf club in Bedminster, NJ that everyone there loves him because he treats his employees well.
Utter BS is correct!
Evidence please. Hard, documented evidence. Not just the verbal testimony of a scared little man. Strategists fall in love with a winning strategy, and become predictable. Trump falls more in line with the Bobby Fischer (yes, chaos is a ladder) method of creating a line of success from the whirlwind of unpredictability and chaos. Some people play chess at an entirely different level.
Yeah, the Cohen thing, it didn't age well...Buzzfeed should go the way of Gawker. For thirty years the republican party has promised, again and again our key issues and every time FAILS to deliver. Now all we hear is that he is not nice when he does it.
If my house is on fire I don't run out with a questionnaire of the fireman's social/political/moral beliefs, no, I just want the fire out. I worked for a large company that brought in a new plant manager in who raised hell saying that we were going to reorganize the plant. It was tough for a few months, good people quit, some acted up and got fired but in the end the company was much better because of it. It was necessary and beneficial. The reasoning that "The other guys were terrible, so Trump is awesome" is not very solid.
The reasoning "They haven't convinced me, so they are lying" is also not solid. The reasoning that "He fights, therefore he must be right" is particularly weak. I hope Trump wins in 2020, but I have to admit that some fair portion of his supporters reason and argue like liberals. What a retarded analysis. Here on planet earth, American politics is binary. Humility is the first step toward not being a sanctimonious dumbass. The alternative was an openly (and proudly) corrupt nepot who was engaged in the grandest scheme against the American people in the history of this republic. Between shitting her adult diapers and having street seizures, she was weaponizing the entire federal government against the people to whom this country belongs. If you aren't profoundly grateful for Donald Trump, you are out of your damn mind...or you don't much give a crap about this country.
Looks like the "walls are closing in on Trump" about Cohen turned out to be media disinformation.
As an NJ state worker I would love to have Christie back at the capital. It's been a long first year with the new guy and I'm already looking forward to the election.
